- The Basics
It's time to go back to the Big Top at Sydney's Luna Park, where Come Together has pulled in a 2010 lineup that'll remove your socks . . . by blowing them off. Gyroscope heads up our selection with the electrifying, hard-punching "Some of the Places I Know" from the Gil Norton-produced Cohesion, alongside Kisschasy, side-winding through "Generation Why" from 2009's Seizures, and Frenzal Rhomb, taking us back to 1999 with a knuckle-shredding blast of "Never Had So Much Fun." Visiting from foreign shores are California punks Strung Out ("Heart Attack"), and Philadelphia's the Loved Ones ("Distracted") who are related in name only to the legendary Melbourne rock band from the '60s. There's some rap, some thrash, and a whole lot of stompin' in our Come Together 2010 Next Steps.

Come Together 2010 gets kind of intense here in Next Steps, thanks to the likes of Melbourne's Jericco, who deliver highly spiced progressive rock at thrash velocity on their self-titled calling card, and their city neighbours, Twelve Foot Ninja, who ride a gathering storm with "Beneath the Smiles." The Snowdroppers tap into that fundamental human urge to pull on a heavy pair of boots and kick up some dust with "Do the Stomp," Syndey hip-hop duo Adit and Solo — collectively known as Horrorshow — bring the syllables with "Thoughtcrime (Doin' My Think)" from 2009's Inside Story, and Calling All Cars put their pedal to the metal with "Hold, Hold, Fire."

The Big Top, retro-fairground rides (free for the duration), and classic long-weekend sounds . . . it must be Come Together, and for 2010 the band roster is spittin' sparks from top to bottom. As ever, the emphasis falls squarely on punk and alt rock, and the atmosphere is carnivalesque. Our special selection capturing the essence of the festival features the amp-splitting heroics of British India, lighting up the sky with "Vanilla," the highly evolved post-grunge of Grinspoon — hitting hard with "Comeback" from 2009's Six to Midnight — and the artful rock sculptures of the Butterfly Effect, whose third full-lengther, Final Conversations of Kings, boasts the unshakeable "In These Hands." The overall result is a fully moshed, triple-strength playlist that represents the core, the pulse, and the undeniable muscle of Come Together 2010.
