- The Basics
Indie electronica's biggest outdoor gathering, spread over five nationwide venues, returns stronger than ever for 2010 — no doubt about it, Parklife makes the ideal curtain-raiser for the summer festival circuit, with its compelling mix of newbies, favourites and Stateside heavyweights. Midnight Juggernauts sit proudly at the head of our selection from the lineup with "Vital Signs," a highlight on 2010's The Crystal Axis, while Liverpool's the Wombats offer a joyous-if-ironic take on post-post-punk overload with "Let's Dance to Joy Division," and the Dandy Warhols deliver the delicious fuzz of 2003's "We Used to Be Friends." Uffie joins Kele and DJ Mehdi among our sparkling Parklife 2010 Next Steps.

Whether you're ravin' like a crazy, or chillin' out at turf level, Parklife 2010 offers the full gamut of groovy options direct from electronic music's leading edge. Bloc Party frontman Kele (Okereke) arrives with his 2010 debut solo album The Boxer, and its bangin' lead single "Tenderoni," Uffie hooks up with Mirwais and Pharrell for "ADD SUV" which features the funniest-ever rap about short attention spans — "Minute to minute/I feel like I'm in/the movie Memento/But I don't have a pen" — and British wonky popster Dan Black makes his first trip to Australia for Parklife 2010, brandishing such addictive material as "U + Me =."

Two thousand-ten delivers a souped-up, expanded version of Parklife, boasting an upgrade to bigger venues in Melbourne and on the Gold Coast, as well as a comprehensive roster of dynamic new artists performing alongside rabble-rousing legends. Missy Elliott (who hasn't played down under since 2004) and the Dandy Warhols supply some real substance to the nationwide dance party, while homegrown heroes Cut Copy appear for the first time in Australia in two years. Contributing to the festival's truly international complexion are Spanish band Delorean, steaming out of the Basque country with a cover of Salt-N-Pepa's "Push It," Brit rhythm-meisters Ou Est le Swimming Pool and Groove Armada, and Belgium's masterful synth-crunchers, Soulwax.
