Schoolies Anthems 2

Hey, leavers, we know you've been too busy studying to compile your own classic schoolie-tune playlist (yeah, whatever, Ed.) so we've gone ahead and done it for you. This second batch of anthems has been custom-designed to soundtrack the greatest party week of your life so far, kicking off with Katy Perry's hot 'n' fresh 2008 smash, "I Kissed a Girl," and a fistful of perennial floor-fillers including Eminem's pant-splitting "Just Lose It" and Daft Punk's robotic rabble-rouser "Around the World." A couple of early '90s club classics light up our Schoolie Next Steps.

A selection of British club classics keeps the schoolie groove moving here — Future Sound of London (Garry Cobain and Brian Dougans) first released "Papua New Guinea" 1991 and it remains a cast-iron party-week favourite, Massive Attack's timeless "Unfinished Sympathy" (also a '91 release) picks up added momentum in its Perfecto mix guise, and Groove Armada's late-'90s chill-down "At the River" continues to drift on it's languid throwback sample of "Old Cape Cod" (by Patti Page). The BPM count picks up, in Deep Cuts.

Here, all you schoolie rave-monsters, we're going to pick up the pace thanks to a posse of superstar DJ's who specialize in mixing vinyl with adrenaline — Ferry Corsten picks up "The Orange Theme" by ambient trance-meisters Cygnus X and sends it careering into the sunset, Tiösto cranks up Airscape's "L'esperanza" until it reaches warp speed then fires it across the galaxy, and Armand Van Helden lays his bongo-bolstered bpm on "Professional Widow" and lovingly divorces it from the Tori Amos original.

Schoolies, here's where the exams end and the party starts. From Surfers Paradise to Magnetic Island, and everywhere leavers are doing what they do best — i.e. "leaving" — the year's graduation extravaganza needs a jumpin' soundtrack . . . and with these Essentials, a companion playlist for our original schoolie compilation, we've delivered a real belter. Twenty-first-century party-starters like the Veronicas (kicking in with the twin demands "Take Me on the Floor" and "Hook Me Up") and T.A.T.U. (leading the charge away from high school with "Not Gonna Get Us" and their excellent Smiths cover "How Soon Is Now?") mix it up with rave veterans like the Chemical Brothers and Underworld to cover all your post-pen-pushing needs.
