Something With Numbers is that rare commodity — a band determined, and capable enough, to keep pushing their boundaries with every fresh release; an outfit that knows how to mature without losing immediacy. Born as feisty, mewling New South Wales pop(ish) punks at the start of the millennium, the band has evolved to embrace multiple shades of alt rock, never sacrificing songcraft on the altar of blistering noise. Here, we chart SWN's progression through a handful of belters: "Words Mean Nothing" — from 2004's debut album Etiquette — is an early mosh-inducing highlight; breakthrough track "Apple of the Eye (Lay Me Down)" lulls at the same time as it propels; and "We'll Fight" — from 2008's Engineering the Soul — features curveball horn work from the Dap Kings. Keep these chaps on your radar.
