Janice B - My Life - Mar 18,2012 | Who is Janice B., and what is “eclectic soul”? “Eclectic soul is what Janice B. embodies in her music,” asserts Mo-Rece, Janice B.’s producer. “There is feeling and depth of emotion at the core of all of her songs. Whether it’s neosoul, R & B, jazz, or blues or country, it is soulful. And she is a tremendous talent lyrically. It’s Evanescence meets Sarah McLaughlin meets Sade.” Janice B. adds, “That is what is most important to me – writing songs. I hate lyrics that mean nothing.” Janice B. was the first singer signed to Stinkiface Music, and she created a beautifully expressive, uniquely musical and lyrical, emotion-filled EP project entitled “Watch Me Fly”, released in September 2009. The project was well received, and Janice B. moved forward to record a full length CD project (thanks in part to a successful Kickstarter campaign), the 17-track "My Life". "My Life" not only showcases Janices singing and songwriting talents, it also allowed Janice to work with other talented artists in the DMV like Sahffi, Ama Chandra, Queen Earth and Native Son of The 5th L. Janice B. sums it up this way -- “Theres always gonna be a little of my soul in everything I create. ‘Music with soul’ is my mantra.” She is a member of the Baltimore Songwriters Association, the Songwriters Association of Washington D.C., The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (producers of The Grammys). Clarissa Cupero - I’ve Got Your Number! - May 21,2010 | Raised in Warwick, New York, about 65 miles north of New York City, 20 year old Cupéro has been singing since she was four years old. She started piano lessons at nine and guitar at sixteen, which for her, has been the key to unlock everything. “Since picking up the guitar, everything has fallen into place – it was the right instrument for me to begin writing songs on, and image-wise, I love it. When I’m playing guitar – that’s the essence of who I am.” Influenced by modern artists and a few classic rock artists, her biggest praise is reserved for the Colombian rock artist Juanes, a winner of seventeen Latin Grammys and who has sold over ten million albums. “I really admire his music and his activism, and the fact that he’s bilingual was the inspiration for me to become a bilingual artist.” Join us May 20, 2010 at 7pm PST/9pm CST/10pm EST at BlogTalkRadio.com/ColoredPeople To *only listen over the phone*, dial (712)432-0075 Passcode: 900080. He comes from a wide range of family history in music that once indulged very heavily in local bands as musicians, singers, dancers, composers, managers, and teachers. His main influences are his father, Robert Lee Smith III, who is a bass player, lead guitarist, trumpeter and pianist. His mother, Carolyn Fuentes who is a published writer, singer, keyboardist and drummer. His grandmother who is a gospel singer. His mother's sister Patricia, who is a violinist and plays the bass and last but certainly not least his grandfather, the late Rev. B. L. Miles who was a singer, and played the rhyme guitar, organ, and piano in his church. His grandfather gifted Antoine with a keyboard, which is to him a cherished gift. It is no wonder this young man is so talented! Antoine also atributes his success to his faith and is a role model to his peers. Antoine is a drummer and a as he puts it, a ”dabbling” keyboardist that composes and plays mainly, contemporary jazz. In addition, he composes other genres as well including music for video games. His latest CD is "Daydream" released under the "Turn on Records" label and "Mythical" and "City in the Sea" are yet to be released. His desire is to enter into an Audio Production and Engineering program. Clayton "Bigtrigger" Corley - SOJPRADIO.com - ColoredPeople.net's Talented Member - Feb 27,2009 | Clayton (BigTrigger) Corley, Sr. is a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He developed his love of writing at the age of 14 and his love of jazz from as far back as he can remember. While in high school, he wrote for the school newspaper and was recognized by the Pulitzer Prize Committee for Journalism for his articles about the West Philadelphia High Speedboys basketball team. As of May 2005, he became a published author with the release of Universal Moods (a short story collection). Clayton credits his literary influences from the likes of poets Langston Hughes, George Moses Horton and his mother, the late Barbara Mae Ayers, who was an accomplished writer in her own right. His love of jazz stems from childhood when he was asked to play the albums belonging to his parents while they entertained guests in the basement of their home. Yes, they ran a speakeasy and Clayton was the "Record Guy." His parent's collection consisting of artists such as Miles Davis, Errol Garner, Cannonball Adderley, and Nancy Wilson created the foundation for his broad knowledge of jazz. Clayton feels that jazz and poetry were made for each other. "Both have elements of improvisation and are major ways of negotiating agendas and communicating with one another. They also have vast history especially as it relates to our culture. These two art forms need to be kept alive and passed down to future generations." That's what Spotlight on Jazz & Poetry strives to do. He was born under the sign of Pisces. As is true to most born under that sign, Clayton is a "Dreamer." This trait is evident in his writing and has helped in formulating the concept for his radio program. Clayton is married, has four children, and just recently became a grandfather.
