Disc Breaks with Llupa - 185 - ft. Karl Sav - 15th December 2011 | This week we're biggin' up the Australian Breakbeat Massive with a guest mix from our own Karl Sav. Karl has been knocking about the scene for a while bringing us quality tracks and remixes in the deep techy vein, but then he disappeared on us... With an EP about to drop on Strontium and a single on Scarcity the big man is back and this guest mix showcases some of his quality new originals and remixes - expect big tings from the man in 2012! Karl took quite a bit of time out to answer some questions about himself, his productions and where he's been for the last little while with the full interview is here - Disc Breaks Interview: Karl Sav Karl Sav In 2009, Beatport listed Karl Sav as one of the names to watch in dance music. In 2010 a massive hard drive crash almost derailed his releases altogether. 12 months later, a campaign ensued to rescue the music of said hard drive and after successfully doing so Karl Sav is back! One of Australia’s leading exports in the breakbeat world, Karl Sav has been djing and producing electronic music since the early “naughties”. His debut release on Erase Records out of Greece lead to signings with Unstable Label and Re:connect records in the UK and release on Australian label (and club night he was resident Dj at from 2006 to 2009) Destination Label. Karl Sav has remixed some of the biggest names in dance music in Myagi, Calvertron, Signal Drivers, High Eight, WoNK, Mars, Mesmer as well as Australian bands “The Falls” and “Calerway” who featured his remix of “Imaginary Friend” on their debut album, Midnight Mercenaries. He has received airplay from some big names in Future Funk Squad, Hedflux, Dopamine and Elite Force as well as playing along side some of the front runners in the breakbeat scene over the years in Krafty Kuts, Skool of Thought, Breakfastaz, Chris Carter, Future Funk Squad, Kraymon, Friendly, Klaus Hill, Dj Mutiny, Dopamine , Baobinga, ID, Groove Diggerz, Jhz, Antiform, Mesmer, Hedflux, and Phil K. With 20 years under his belt involved in music from bands to electronic, the short break from it all has not set him back with releases set for the end of 2011 and beyond. Disc Breaks with Llupa - 179 - ft. AP3X - 20/10/11 | Coming in with the guest mix hat trick, this week we're featuring one of the new and rising stars in the scene - AP3X. AP3x has been a name on the local scene in New Zealand, but really broke out internationally with his recent single on Ridiculoud 'Power Struggle' - I rinsed it and the Retroid remix a lot, so thought I should get him on the show to see what else he has coming up and to get an idea of what he's got in the box. Needless to say he's thrown down a wickedly chunky mix featuring some of his new stuff and a host of new tunes from the deep tech funk end of breakbeat. I also have the one and only fellow NSB DJ The Scritch staying at Chez Llupa, so expect some b2b shizzle for the first hour AP3X AP3X is a name that has become synonymous with dark, driving, energetic music in the Auckland dance scene. From playing parties at the local soccer club in rural South Auckland on an old pc and Tractor V1.0, aged 16, to supporting international acts like Freestylers (UK), Scratch Perverts (UK), Rennie Pilgrim (UK), Baobinga & I.D (UK), NAPT (UK), Vent (UK), one thing that hasn’t changed is a true love for electronic music. Arriving on the Auckland club scene in 2002 with the conception of “Revolt”, co-promoted with the infamous Andy Bukshot, he started off playing progressive house and techno. The eventual discovery of breaks around 2003 set the course for the future. After gigs all around the North Island, guest dj mixes on NZ national music TV channel ‘Juice’ as well as the two major Auckland Dance radio stations, co-hosting the ‘Audio Damage’ show on UPFM and holding things down for one of NZ’s longest running breaks nights “Infectious” with co-promoters and dj’s $ure$hot and Joe Revell, the natural progression was to move onto production. With a couple of minor releases already under his belt, AP3X shifted focus from the club to the studio. The result is his first release with U.S label Ridiculoud Records, “Power Struggle” with a remix from breaks heavyweight Retroid. Disc Breaks with Llupa - 173 - ft. Cage Page - 01/09/11 | Got another cracking guest mix for you this week, this time from VIM Records stalwarts and Ukrainian breakbeat ambassadors - The Cage Page! The guys have pulled together a tight and stompin' set of breakbeats featuring a new stuff from them and some cracking labels. Cage Page The Cage Page band are far from newbies on the club scene. DJs and producers, as well as residents of the Vim Record-label, the Cage Page had for a long time dealt with the development and promotion of Breaks to the masses. The bands activities include organizing and participating in various musical events, and even cooperation with the leading Ukrainian and Western musicians and record labels of the electronic scene. Creativity of the Cage Page is continuing to bear fruit and the band is gradually expanding to the international breakbeat scene. Their tracks often occupy a worthy place in the sets and compilations of many DJs. The band does already have two clips on the songs "To You" and "Tak i ostanemsa", which has collected a lot of positive feedback from listeners and received heavy rotation on TV and radio stations. Disc Breaks with Llupa - 172 - ft. Tom Clyde - 25/08/11 | This week we're back to the guest mixes, this time coming from a new bloke on the production scene, hailing from Russia - Tom Clyde! Tom's been a regular supporter of the show for a while and recently had his first release out, a remix of Destroyers tracks called 'Celders' - it's a solid slab of driving psy breaks and I've given it a good rinse since its release. He has a stack of new tracks coming up and this mix features some new stuff from Tom as well as some tracks that have helped define his sound. Plus us Tom's have to stick together ;) Tom Clyde Tom Clyde is Moscow based representative of new wave breaks musicians in Russia. Although felt in love with this style back in 2004. Since then stood behind turntables and began first attempts at writing music in 2005. First successes came in 09 and after while originals and remixes have been signed by leading breaks labels like Scarcity Records (best new label at Breakspoll 2011), VIM Breaks and Diablo Loco. Tom Clyde`s sound can be described as a cocktail of heavy tech and electro grooves, progressive melodics and flavoured with heavyweight drums. For a short time tracks have been supported by such breaks titans as Hedflux, Retroid, Peter Paul, Access Denied, Mesmer, Home Alone, Llupa! Beside music writing, Tom and his friends from Breakbeat Zone crew make parties with big stars in Moscow.
