This week starts our look at the fourth ever story of Doctor Who – Marco Polo. Bit of a tricky one this one. A bit of a first for MMM – this is the first time ever we have done a commentary for a story that has never had an official release, anywhere. It’s a missing story you see, the BBC decided in their wisdom to get rid of it. But luckily some enterprising chaps took many photos of the actual video when it existed, and a lot of other enterprising chaps made audio recordings of the episodes. Put them together and you have a missing episode reconstruction, which you can quite easily get hold of if you are handy with a particular type of search engine and know how to type in the words Marco Polo. MMM Commentary for Doctor Who – The Girl Who Waited | The MMM team return to the familiar and comforting well of Doctor Who and provide a commentary for one of their favourite episodes of the most recent season – the Season 6 story The Girl Who Waited. In the episode, alien time traveller the Doctor (Matt Smith) takes his companions Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) and her husband Rory (Arthur Darvill) to the planet Apalapucia for a holiday, but the find that the planet is on quarantine as the two-hearted natives are susceptible to a deadly plague. Amy accidentally gets separated from the Doctor and Rory but when they try to rescue her they arrive 36 years later in her timeline. The older Amy does not trust the Doctor, who is forced to remain on the TARDIS as he also has two hearts, and will not allow the Doctor and Rory leave and rescue her at the correct point in her timeline. MMM Commentary for Breaker Morant | MMM is proud to present a commentary track for a film that not a lot of people know about, but a a film that a lot of people should. During the Boer War, three Australian lieutenants are on trial for shooting Boer prisoners. Though they acted under orders, they are being used as scapegoats by the General Staff, who hopes to distance themselves from the irregular practices of the war. The trial does not progress as smoothly as expected by the General Staff, as the defence puts up a strong fight in the courtroom. It is a truly powerful film, which not only shows the brutality of war, but the unfairness and inequity of war. Starring Edward Woodward, and directed by Bruce Beresford with a star studded supporting cast of Jack Thompson, Bryan Brown and John Waters. So we felt it opportune to revisit the way we do things and re-evaluate what we want to do with our time in the caravan speaking into microphones. We have decided to concentrate more fully on that, our first love. Now that doesn’t mean that Fantragic is disappearing, far from it. In short, as far as cinema heroes, Mr Man was a bit of a cleanskin (no pun) In the opinion of MMM, that was a distinct advantage. MMM Commentary: Blake’s 7 – Terminal | Trev’s greatest hour, or one of them came with this sensational climax to the third season of Blake’s Seven. End of season cliffhangers had become part and parcel of the show but this is the story that really shook the fans up. Trev was one of those fans and he still shakes today (but that may be the vertical hold). When Avon takes the Liberator to a secret the location the rest of the crew are puzzled and suspicious. MMM Commentaries Podcasts
I have to admit that these podcasts are really quite good, with a great mix between informed opinion and casual conversation. Although the podcasts are not as flashy as some others on the iTunes Music Store, what they lack in flashy sound effects and musical interludes they make up for with good content. Which is what the focus should be, of course. Not only are their podcasts really good, but the alternative fan-made commentaries they offer show an increasing confidence and sophistication with the trivia being talked about. All in all, some good MP3 files to download today!
