SFBRP #134 – A Science Fiction Book Review Podcast Review Podcast | This episode I invited Jesse and Tamahome from the SFFaudio Podcast to review other podcasts that review, or at least talk about, science fiction and fantasy novels and other literature. This was inspired by an overcrowded and shallow look at podcasts on a recent episode of the SF Signal podcast that Jesse took part in, and we all agreed we had more to say on the subject. We chatted about: SFFaudio Podcast and the SFBRP, and why we do what we do. A Good Story is Hard to Find – a podcast by Scott and Julie, two other SFFaudio regulars. Sword and Laser. GeekNights Book Club. Science Fiction and Politics with Courtney Brown. Kick-A*s Mystic Ninjas – “podfaded.” Paul the Book Guy. Gweek. Skiffy and Fanty. Geeks Guide to the Galaxy. Bonus audio: FNPL #44 | Last week I took part in a recording session for the Friday Night Party Line podcast. The idea behind this podcast is: bunch of geeks have conversations about technology and society, and you get to listen in. And I was drunk. So if you want to hear my drunken rants against flash mobs, plus discussions on many other topics, give it a listen. For some reason the suitcase full of blood seemed to resonate with other listeners. It’s quite long though, so don’t worry about just deleting it on download. Notes: Tonight’s Guests: Rym, Scott, Luke, Churba, Adam, and Victor The Rapture! Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rapture The Washington Post’s Outlook section invited 10 writers to sift through the world’s clutter and each nominate one thing – an idea, a tradition, a habit, a technology, you name it – that we’d all be better off tossing out this spring. What they got ranged from “The Simpsons” to “Democracy”. What thing would you want eliminated? Original Article: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/special/opinions/outlook/spring-cleaning-2011/?hpid=z2 Everyone “knows” that everyone else is a worse driver than they are, so what if we took humans out of the equation? Well, Google has been silently lobbying to allow robots to drive on Nevada public roads. How do you feel about this? Original Article: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/11/science/11drive.html?_r=2 A bill has been introduced into the senate that would give the Department of Justice and individuals new powers to enforce copyright and trademark law against “rogue” and “pirate” Web sites that offer unlicensed copies of protected content or which sell illegal knock-offs of brand-name goods by taking them off the internet. Never mind the questions of the technological feasibility of this bill, what do you think of the possible ramifications of this, if it even passes. | 26 5 11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Customer Reviews
Good when he likes the book, irritating when he doesn't
The reviews Luke offers when he likes a book are interesting, informative and enjoyable. He has a very engaging presenting style and a thorough, honest approach to his reviews. However, when Luke doesn't like the book, the reviews tend to become whiny, annoying rants in which he mocks the parts he didn't like in an irritating, condescending manner. Listen for the positive reviews, but prepare to be frustrated by the negative ones.
A must for fans of serious SF
This podcast is a must for fans of serious SF. Luke is an insightful reviewer with an engaging style. He manages to provide detailed and comprehensive reviews without spoiling major plot points, which is an impressive skill. If you want to hear a passionate, thoughtful reader discuss SF books with genuine enthusiasm, listen to this podcast.
Good Stuff
Luke's book reviews tell it like it is and are very honest and frank. You may not agree with everything he says but does review the books from a variety of angles.
Very enthusiastic in his podcasts. The books he's given 4.5 stars and above (out of a 5 rating) I've gone out of my way to read and they've ben great sci-fi novels
