#696 Best Of: Seeking Oblivion - Paul's Friend Karma

#696 Best Of: Seeking Oblivion - Paul's Friend Karma

A favorite episode among listeners and from the first year of the podcast (2011). How do you cope when you are convinced your life is constantly in danger as a child? First, you band together with your siblings and form an army, then you learn about the sweet oblivion of addiction. Paul’s friend Karma withholds her last name and picture so she can fully reveal the family life that nearly killed her, but ultimately forced her to grow. A fairly heavy interview so Paul throws in a little something after the interview to hopefully make you laugh.

FIVE STARS - EXCELLENT SHOW

I discovered The Mental Illness Happy Hour in 2016 and it’s been staple in my downloads ever since. Paul Gilmartin is comedian and ex-cable TV host and a true god send of a presenter. The MIHH deals each week a guest interview - sometimes famous people but usually every day Joes who talk about their mental health issues. The other half of the episode is Paul reading answers to different surveys he has written and posted on the podcasts formal website - they are gritty and fascinating and really help normalise my own dark issues. I truely believe the world is a better place for Paul having created this platform and I’m yet to find another show like it. Paul and his guests make me feel comforted and I look forward to every Friday when the new episodes drop. Some episodes are a heavy listen so view discretion is advised.
