Description

Jonathan Rhys Meyers stars as King Henry VIII who, at the beginning of his almost 40-year reign, demonstrated little interest in the affairs of state — making him ripe for exploitation by his scheming Chancellor, Cardinal Thomas Wolsey, whose papal ambitions drove his personal agenda. But King Henry’s desire for a male heir and his wife Katherine of Aragon’s inability to produce one, set his empire on a historic course that threatened his authority, fostered the rise of Anne Boleyn — a mistress determined to be the new queen — and sparked a bloody Protestant Reformation that undermined the Catholic Church in Europe. Despite challenges from a powerful Pope in Rome, ambitious and corrupt monarchs across the continent and even his own subjects, Henry will stop at nothing — including exiling and killing those closest to him — to get what he wants.

Lavish but inaccurate

Have watched all of Season 1 and without a doubt this is a very lavish production. The cast are well-chosen and the dialogue is modern. However, great liberties have been taken with the historical facts...for example, Henry VIII's illegitimate son Henry FitzRoy actually died aged 17 but in the series dies about aged 5, there is no historical records to indicate Thomas Tallis had a homosexual relationship and Henry VIII was much older in real life when he seduced Anne Boylean--these are but a few of many inaccuracies. I would have preferred that the producers had issued a disclaimer stating that the series took a liberal intepretation of historical events and people.

Dont Miss It!!!

What a fantastic series detaling an amazing time in history!! The drama is gripping, the costumes breathtaking and Jonathan Rhys Myers and Henry Cavill are both incredibly hot to watch. JRM is brilliant playing the young king. Their female counterparts equally as beautiful. These 2 series are worth every dollar. I could not wait to watch the next episode and found myself on wiki reading the history as it played out. Don't miss it!! ;-)

Phenomenal!

This is not the place for the viewer looking for historical fact, however for the viewer hoping to find breathtaking cinematography, rich costuming and emotionally charged dialogue the Tudors is certainly the series to watch. Each of the characters are real to the audience and the emotional intensity of historical events is truly explored. Casting is fantastic, particularly with Sir Thomas More and Cardinal Wolsey. The costuming was delightful, but delightful in that Boleyn and her ladies dresses looked more like costumes from Star Wars than anything a Tudor lady would have worn, so enthusiasts of historical costume should be prepared to be offended. Overall the series flows well, the music is compelling and the finale scene in final episode in the series, "The Death of Wolsey" is absolutely stunning. I would certainly reccomend it.
