Album Review

"Scooby Snacks" is a 2003 mid-line compilation from Disky, released just a year after the group's first official compilation, Bag of Hits. While that collection remains the superior overview, this is pretty good, weighing in at a generous 14 tracks (Bag of Hits was 15) and having a fairly representative cross-section of hits, including "Scooby Snacks" and "The Fun Lovin' Criminals." Not everything of note is here — inexplicably, "King of New York" has been left off along with a couple other notable singles and album tracks — but it's representative and, if found at a reasonable price, a good bargain for casual fans.

Much like G. Love & Special Sauce, the New York trio known as Fun Lovin' Criminals hit the alternative airwaves with a blend of hip-hop beats, alternative style, and bluesy rhythms. The group was formed in 1993 by bassist Brian Leiser (Fast) and drummer Steve Borgovini, who had met in Syracuse while going to school; the pair formed a techno group but later moved back to New York City, where they hooked up with vocalist/guitarist Huey Morgan.
