The Mills Brothers were certainly the sweetest swinging vocal ensemble of their time, and still do not get enough recognition as pioneers of jazz, doo wop, R&B, and even as rock & roll precursors. This 22-track collection, though not comprehensive by any stretch, is a fun set that emphasizes their friendly, ebullient nature towards an audience that stretched out to the general public in the '30s, '40s and '50s. Worldwide good-time classics such as "Shoe Shine Boy," "Nagasaki," "Flat Foot Floogie," "Boog It," a rousing version of "Caravan," "Jeepers Creepers," and their signature tune "Lazy Bones" should bring smiles to nostalgia buffs, kids of all ages, and even the crankiest codgers. ~ Michael G.
