Customer Reviews
A Nice Try
A sampler made up of 4AD releases will necessarily have some great songs, and this one is no exception. The Pixies' 'Where Is My Mind', The Mountain Goats' 'This Year', St. Vincent's 'Actor Out of Work' - all are great songs. At the same time, I have to wonder who the intended audience for this sampler is. After all, most people - like our ignorant friend bgat from an earlier review, who apparently had not even heard of a mainstream group like The Breeders, much less something more underground like Dead Can Dance, yet still felt compelled to post a review - have no idea what 4AD is and would thus have no interest in a 4AD sampler. On the other hand, any fan of 4AD music would certainly find the selection to be wanting, particularly for the 90s. Where, after all, are tracks from His Name Is Alive, Lisa Germano, Throwing Muses, etc.? My only guess is that the intent here is to try to get fans of some of the older 4AD artists to listen to newer ones, and vice versa. Maybe it will work, but I think 4AD would be better served artistically by a much larger format collection, one that truly exemplifies the quality and variety of its artists.
I Melt With You
The only song I downloaded from this album, is a golden oldie. It was a moderate hit in the '80's, if memory serves. The other songs I never heard of.
