Album Review
Former Max Webster head-case Kim Mitchell hits a homer with his first full-length. An esoteric ode to hometown hero Frank Soda, "Go for a Soda" exudes a M.A.D.D. dream while establishing the album's ambiance: brainy boogie with enough punch to p***k up the ears and let down the hair (Mitchell's minimizing mane the fount of much comedy in the knee-slapping "Soda" video). Come see the clown's softer side in the poignant "Feel It Burn" and the crystalline "All We Are," then juxtapose with the silly rock songs "That's a Man" and "Diary for Rock & Roll Men," finally injecting Mitchell's unique verve over his stylish chops and the end result is one enjoyable full-bodied lager rager — the kind of cerebral soiree common to the '70s, but rare otherwise. Mitchell's innovations catch up to him in a completely amiable fashion.

Classic
Kim Mitchell's Akimbo Alogo is classic good time rock, with a seemingly odd sensitivity thrown in. Not odd to his fans though, on this album he and Pye Dubois (lyricist) team up for rock ballad All We Are, when back in his Max Webster days on High Class in Borrowed Shoes in amongst all the high energy fun stuff the two threw in On The Road -- one of my all time faves. Great music when you just want to kick back and let the guitar riffs take you away, sorta like Calgon but more cathartic. My favourite tracks are: All We Are, Feel It Burn, and Lager and Ale, but its also hard to argue with Go For Soda. Enjoy!
