Album Review

Jordin Sparks didn't get any traction until she received a boost from Chris Brown via their duet "No Air," the one moment on her 2007 eponymous debut that felt unquestionably modern, so it makes perfect sense that her second album,Battlefield, ditches almost all lingering American Idol pageantry for stylized pop and R&B pitched halfway between Rihanna (whose "S.O.S." is essentially rewritten here, with Shannon's "Let the Music Play" substituted for "Tainted Love") and Leona Lewis. Jordin has had enough success to hire some of 2009's biggest hitmakers in the business, including T-Pain and OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder. Most of these namebrands are recordmakers, not songwriters, so it's not a great surprise to find Battlefield works as a collection of productions where Jordin's voice is merely one element of the overall picture. This sentiment doesn't apply quite as strongly to the clutch of Sparks' collaborations grouped toward the end of the album — all ballads, some with vaguely spiritual overtones such as "Faith," whose chorus inadvertently flirts with John Hiatt's "Have a Little Faith In Me" — but for the first two-thirds of Battlefield, it's all a cool, expertly crafted modern pop and R&B, which is enough for Sparks to sustain her momentum. [A deluxe version was also released.]

Stronger

I bought her first album last April. Though I enjoyed it, it was a slow grower. This album however, took an instant effect over the listener. If not all tracks, almost all tracks are single material. Unlike her first album, Jordin had more time to grow, be involved and evolve with this album therefore she sounds more real and honest this time around. She's immersed herself with the songs she sings in here therefore allowing herself to pour her emotions more than ever. She also got the time to write / co-write some of her own songs. There would be at times where I forget this is Jordin. She' grown that much. I'd be sad for anyone who just buys the single Battlefield and whichever other songs-to-be-chosen single releases in the future. Reason I say this is because every track on this album are too good to miss out. I encourage people to either buy the physical deluxe or the iTunes copy. The deluxe tracks "Papercut" (which is easily Jordin's own "Big Girls Don't Cry") and "Postcard" are songs to not leave out. The bonus videos are also very fun to watch. You can get an idea of how much work the people had to do in the making, including Jordin herself. And to note, the digital booklet on this album is a lot better in quality than her first album, where it seemed "scanned". This one is a direct digital. This album actually feels like there's a story told. It definitely conveys with the title track's theme very well. I'm very glad Jordin had more input in the making of this album and thus, she's made a masterpiece she can be proud of. Believe me, you do not want to miss this out.

Jordin Sparks = nice singer , this album = correct, not excellent

The album is mostly O.K. Jordin's voice have a lot to do with it.. She's such a great singer, i like a few songs such as Walking on Snow, Don't Let it Go to your heard, SOS, Faith, The cure, papercut and Postcard. Theses are my fav songs. It's not THE ALBUM OF THE YEAR, but Jordin have some good songs !

JORDIN SPARKS outdoes herself with follow up album!

I didn't have high expectations for her follow up album as I was quite bored with her self-titled album, i was shocked when i listened to it. Losts of different stuff going on during this album from dance/pop songs, to slow ballads showing her vocal talent to in between songs. I must say I love "EMERGENCY (911), SOS(LET THE MUSIC PLAY), DON'T LET IT GO TO YOUR HEAD, BATTLEFIELD, WALKING ON SNOW and NO PARADE. Her next singel should be EMERGENCY (911)

Jordin Sparks may have been the youngest American Idol when she won the title on the reality show's sixth season, but the Glendale, AZ, resident had already packed plenty of accomplishments into 17 years.
