iTunes Review
Six years since 2001’s Down to Earth, Ozzy Osbourne’s last album of original material, Black Rain is his first new album since Osbourne’s newfound fame as a reality TV show icon. Though the success of Ozzfest maintains his credibility in hard rock circles, his musical reputation was forged several decades ago with Black Sabbath and with the earlier years of his solo career. Which is to say anyone still looking for the groundshaking monolithic riffs that birthed a million heavy metal bands will be sadly disappointed by Osbourne’s current approach. Guitarist Zakk Wylde brings a few trademarked solos, but Black Rain succeeds with songs shaded on the heavier side of pop, tilted towards a dark, modern psychedelia (“Lay Your World On Me”). Even at his most zombied, Osbourne’s had a pop knack and working with producer Kevin Churko who’s engineered with Britney Spears and Shania Twain, it’s no surprise that the tracks are crisp and compact, even as Osbourne offers his apocalyptic worldviews (“The Almighty Dollar,” “Civilize the Universe,” “Countdown’s Begun”).

Diary Part Two: Riffs and Testimony
Wel, Ozzy has been long overdue for a Diary... and that's just what this is, Diary of a Madman part two. Almost structured identically, the opening track is a thrashing rumble-riff reminiscent of "Over the Mountain," lyrically a testimony of how Ozzy will simply not cease his assault at heavy rock. Black Rain is highly recomended AFTER you hear Diary of a Madman, unquestionably Osbourne's greatest album immediately prior to the greatest survived self-implosion of any artist in Rock'n'Roll history. The album meanders through some similar ground sonically as far the Oz-man's vocals go. The startling sound of this album is the producer's stamp. The guitars grind more menacingly, the drums crackle with more force than "Diary." Kudos to Kevin Churko for his co-production on Ozzy's Pro Tools setup. The album stands as a self-tribute to the glory (and often stupefied wonder) of Ozzy's career. This man carved himself out a peculiar legacy in heavy metal and pop music and this album relishes and basks in that legacy. Ozzy's Black Rain is simply an amazingly well executed album, rife with riffs, and filled with testimony from the pulpit of the Oz-man himself.
Good Things Happen To Those Who Wait
This highly anticipated album has not dissapointed. A huge step up from his last effort "Down to Earth", Ozzy comes out and delivers a solid album. Over the years his voice is still there, showing us that this old rocker only gets better with age. A good mix between the rock and ballads to create that sense of balance. Zakk Wylde shows up to prove that he is a guitar hero for the next generation, displaying some of the sickest solos that will surely melt your face.
yes i like it
good cd same good old voice of ozzy on each new track just new riffs to eaze my mind
