iTunes Review
City and Colour is Canadian singer/songwriter Dallas Green (riffing on his own name there), formerly with the post-hardcore/screamo outfit Alexisonfire. Green’s second C&C outing sparkles in its stripped-down, vulnerable nakedness, with songs that are by turns warm and chilling, aching and joyous. Highlights include the gently spiraling “Constant Knot,” with Green sounding like a man about to come undone; the single, “Waiting…,” a bittersweet, mid-tempo number crackling with gentle percussion and a memorable guitar melody (and a few great lines, such as “a coma might feel better than this”); “The Death of Me,” a comparatively upbeat number with sprinting guitars and snare drum; the foot-stomping “Sleeping Sickness,” with guest Gordon Downie of The Tragically Hip; and two tracks, “Forgive Me” and “What Makes a Man?”, featuring Green’s reverb-drenched vocals and a hushed solemnity rivaling fellow plaid-wearing beardo Bon Iver’s own introspective work. City and Colour allows Green’s notable talent to be expressed with clarity and intimacy, and it’s a place he may want to dwell in for a while longer.

Solid Sophmore Album
Personally I have a bias to Dallas and his Alexisonfire compatriots because they're Canadian, but they also happen to make some ridiculously good music. I'm a pretty critical listener of music and don't generally praise an album I just started listening to an hour ago, but this will be a first for me. This album is simply sensational. The lyrics are perfectly blended with the beautiful melodies. Dallas' voice really suites this genre of music and it really shows with this album. Some of the songs have really depressingly deep lyrics which is expected, but that is not the case for all of the songs. For instance "My Girl" is a really awesome ballad which is a nice change of pace from the usual. I found this album a treat to listen to and if I can impart anything on you it would be to buy it NOW. You will not regret it I guarantee it. Happy listening.
First Best CD of 2008
I was first introduced to City and Colour as "the dude who went solo from Alexisonfire". Not being such a fan of the screamy, more aggressive music, I reluctantly gave Dallas Green's first CD, Sometimes, a try, and was pleasantly surprised when I discovered "Save Your Scissors" and fell in love with "Sometimes (I Wish)". Therefore, the release of his sophomore album was greatly anticipated -- and not a disappointment at all. The first song "Forgive Me" has a plaintive note to it, with gorgeous vocals from Dallas Green (as always). "Confessions" has a catchy chorus that will stay stuck in your head for days. "Sleeping Sickness", featuring the 'Gordfather', hits you right away with the emotion behind it. "Waiting...", the first single off Bring Me Your Love, definitely does not disappoint either, with lyrics like "A coma might feel better than this - attempting to discover, where to begin ... So say goodbye to love and hold your head up high. There's no need to rush. We're all just waiting ... waiting to die." My all time favourite track is "As Much As I Ever Could", the last song with beautiful singing by Green accompanied by the slow strumming of his ever present acoustic guitar - a love song for everyone. Believe it or not, I played this song in the music section of the store I work at, and immediately three people asked who the artist was and bought his CD. The money doesn't even compare to what you're receiving in return -- definitely worth your while.
Possibly better then Sometimes....
