iTunes Review

The very definition of a D.I.Y. success story, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah has spent their first few months topping independent record store charts solely on account of press support and (gasp!) good songs. And what do they sound like? Quite simple actually: Wobbly, strikingly genuine vocals that constantly garner David Byrne comparisons, and warm, mid-fi multi-tracking, and keyboard melodies as broken-in and comforting as the vintage clothing CYHSY fans prefer. It’s nothing new, but it’s a modern indie-pop classic nonetheless.

Wonderful Self Release

This is a wonderful self release from the NYC and Philadelphia based band Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. Though recently signed (on their own terms) they have generated a lot of buzz around the college music circuit and beyond. They have been featured on KCRW as well as Radio 1 and they were the darlings of the CMJ festival in the Fall of 2005. Their music is anything unpredictable and can be described as definitively indie rock. Vocals are haunting and unique. Just check it out and see for yourself!

One of my favourites of the year

Thanks to my SF friends for turning me onto this. Clap Your Hands Say Yeah have not only put together one of the best debut albums of the year but also one of the best releases of 2005. If you like Arcade Fire, Wolf Parade, or the Talking Heads, drop the cash now. Start with "The Skin of My Yellow Country Teeth" if you want a taste of this great new band.

What the heck is he Singing????

This is easily one of my favourite CD's of 2005. The first song is weird and more of an introduction than a song...but every song after that is incredible. The only thing that drives me nuts about iTunes is that albums like this don't include lyrics. I would kill to know what he is singing. But then again, maybe that is half the fun

In the middle of 2005, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah were being touted as the hottest unsigned act in America. The band's self-titled debut — a collection of off-center indie rock songs and quirky pop tunes — was self-produced, self-released, self-promoted, and self-distributed, with a great deal of help from a wide network of bloggers and Internet supporters. There was so much online interest in the band that NPR even did a feature on the emerging phenomena of Internet band buzz, using CYHSY...
