Montreal Couldn't Be Prouder!!!
Once again they give us a great album to kick off the summer, much appreciated boys... Keep Rockin!!
Pretty Good.
For me, We Were Born In A Flame will always be my favorite. But nontheless, I really enjoy this album. Great riffs, catchy tunes. It has drifted a bit from his older music. But you can still tell its him, he has just progressed a little. If you always listened to SR you wont be dissapinted at all. I suggest you but the whole album since its only 10$ for 14 songs.
Where have all the good Rock 'n' Roll riffs gone?
Right off the bat: I am a huge Sam Roberts fan. I've never missed any of his shows in Montréal in the last 6 years. Now, I'm all for trying new styles and going in new directions, and if the band is happy with what they've done, I'm happy for them. Although what I liked about Sam's first two records, the 70' psychedelic riffs and the dreamy keyboard, is completely gone. What happened to those great catchy hooks? Did they leave with the long hair and the beard?
For me the third album was a let down because it lacked the joyful Rock 'n' Roll energy of the first two, but I still managed to really love some songs like "Detroit '67" and "Fixed To Ruin". But I won't even buy this one. Nothing caught my ear or made me tap my foot.
Sometimes, albums you hate become your favourites over time, but I know this won't happen here. For me, this new hipster sound is so bland, it hardly gives me any emotions at all. So bland I can't even hate it... So bland, the only thing it'll make me do, is forget it.
The Gate, The Canadian Dream, Where Have All The Good People Gone, The Bootleg Saint, The friggin' Bootleg Sain people! Awwwh... such great songs...
