Album Review

This is a melodically stunning record in which instrumentation strikes the disc's first chord. "Rebirthing" is a grand opening statement. Guitarist Ben Kasica cooks a delectable platter of tasty lead fills that are accompanied by orchestral tones all over the disc. The same is true of the title track, "Comatose." Here the band uses a proven recipe — staccato guitars, piano, and orchestration — to bring the tune home. "The Last Night" feels like classic Skillet. The tune boasts a feel-good chorus that shouts "radio-friendly." The same can be said for "Yours to Hold," as John Cooper's familiar vocals and warm vibe emanate from the tune. The same sensation strikes the track "The Older I Get." Here, the tune is once again radio-ready with an infectious, singable chorus. Comatose is a record that sustains on many levels. Cooper is really on target. Quiet moments like "Say Goodbye" are effectively woven with heavier moments like "Those Nights." When guitar progressions meet piano nuances, special things happen with this band.

Customer Reviews

Wake up call!

Skillet has come together with a sound the world will embrace. They have always been a solid band with deep truth wrapped up in a tight sound but this album is at a level unknown to date. It rocks in ways that are completely new. Just when you think they have put together the best possible tracks...along comes "Comatose" and blows away anything that you thought reasonable...by any band. This album hasn't just raised the bar...it is the bar. Wow, every other band had better grab this album...secular and Christian alike...listen to it...and try to figure out what has just happened here. Comatose is incredible...thank you Skillet for changing the music scene.

AMAZING!

This album is sooo great! I was looking for a christian style album that still had a ROCK edge to it and was so impressed when I downloaded this album. Rebirthing is a GREAT song as well as every other song on here, you will not be disappointed!

Another great work from Skillet

Can they do no wrong? Skillet has been a band where I buy their disc the day it comes out with confidence that it will be great. Comatose is no exception. Once again different than any other disc, but still amazing. Integrating an orchestra really works, which you could call a Rockestra!
