iTunes Review
Rather than issue a “Greatest Hits” collection to sum up their past twenty years, the Black Crowes decided to eyeball their catalog and reinvent their favorite tunes with acoustic arrangements. It’s an obvious move for a band that has always held onto their rock and pre-rock roots. Their Southern charm, where they’ve taken back roots music from their British rock heroes (the Rolling Stones, the Faces), has never let them down as long as singer Chris Robinson can knowingly leer into the lyrics. Acoustic or not, the funk is still there for the sweaty workouts of “Remedy,” “Jealous Again” and “Downtown Money Waster,” while an elegiac mood carries “She Talks to Angels,” “Ballad In Urgency” and Gram Parsons’ “She.” The electric organ provides the extra boost to help these acoustic guitar-wielding rockers over the classic rock mountain. Bonus tracks, “Boomer’s Story” and Little Feat’s “Willin’” are welcomed additions to what is fast becoming an impeccable catalog of tunes. Their 2008 comeback Warpaint reinvigorated the band and Before the Frost/ Until the Freeze solidified their place as one of America’s finest rock ‘n’ roll bands.

Buy it.... Now.
Simply wonderful... 22 tracks; over two hours... The track list reads like a best of compilation focusing on primarily the first four crowes albums (with a few cuts from later ones). And while I would have been jazzed to hear acoustic cuts of hits like hard to handle or sting me, I can only nitpick at this or that. Some of the tracks are standard acoustic fare (all of which are good, even great--- Chris and the boys are in fine form), but where the album absolutely shines are the little twists or arrangements that will have you bobbing your head and tapping your toes. Share the ride is perfection, non-fictions extended flamenco style instrumental, a blistering rendition of hotel illness, and the southern tent revival break in morning song makes me crave a tour of the album, but no such luck... The release marks the 20th anniversary of their first release, and the beginning of an "open ended hiatus" for the band. Buy this album, even if you're a fan who hasn't picked up their more recent efforts. It's a wonderful retrospective with a nice sound, wonderful musicianship, great vocals, and a near perfect song selection. Five great big freaking stars, people.
Sing a long
I can certainly see myself sitting out in the backyard on a nice summer night, a cold beer in hand, listening to this and singing along to these great tunes. I've been a Crowes fan for years and this cetainly must be added to my collection.
Camp Fire Melodies
Just had the samples from iTunes and I will certainly be purchasing this album and cranking it tonight by a little backyard campfire. Love the acoustic versions. This is the way music should be listened to.
