iTunes Review

Said to be inspired by the alienation that derives from being the only person alive in a city in the middle of the night, Destroyed is an icy, often robotic piece of work that uses mechanical beats and creeping synths to give one the impression that the world is a colorless existence when lived in solitude. Along with a series of female singers, Moby adds vocals to specific tracks in order to color the world. The album is similar in tone to Wait For Me, but without that album’s rougher edges. Moby has gone from being one of the leading organizers in modern music to an artist mostly content to fill his own void. “The Day” is the closest he comes to pure accessibility. Elsewhere, he is interested in creating the kind of music that would sound quite at home as the soundtrack of a David Lynch film should Angelo Badalamenti tire of the job. “Blue Moon” is reminiscent of ‘80s synth-pop. “Slow” is a complex track sounds like an aural hallucination. The Deluxe Edition includes videos and an interview with Moby.

Moby <3

P.S. Do not listen to the reviews that say it sucked! They nearly influenced me to the point of not buying the album..!

Moby builds a bleak new album in lonely hotels

While his contemporaries The Chemical Brothers and Daft Punk were respectively commissioned to produce soundtracks for Hanna and Tron: Legacy, Moby built an album entitled Destroyed while trapped in empty hotel rooms touring across our blue planet. Moby's newest LP has all the dramatic qualities that the aforementioned electronic acts brought for their own filmic forays, although Destroyed is more tangibly and immersively bleak. One of the highlight tracks, The Violent Bear It All Away, is a devastatingly powerful symphonic piece built atop piano.

Amazing.

I am so very happy with this record :D I love all of the songs, and I think that Moby did a great job in setting the atmosphere in this record. I'm not reading too much into the technical side of things, because that is not my area of expertise. What I do know is that this is amazing and lovely and gorgeous. I am proud to add this to my music collection, and it deserves it's spot under Moby. Thank you.

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

Moby was one of the most controversial figures in techno music, alternately praised for bringing a face to the notoriously anonymous electronic genre and scorned by hordes of techno artists and fans for diluting and trivializing the form. In either case, Moby was one of the most important dance music figures of the early '90s, helping bring the music to a mainstream audience both in England and in America. Moby fused rapid disco beats with heavy distorted guitars, punk rhythms, and detailed productions...
