Hey Annie!

Norwegian Electropop Princess Annie Has Returned! The Long Awaited, And Often Delayed "Don't Stop" Has Finally Arrived. The Sophomore Effort Finds Annie In A Return To Form, 5 Years After The Debut Release "Anniemal". Stand Out Tracks Include "Hey Annie", With It's Marching Band/Cheerleader-esque Beats And "Songs Remind Me Of You", An 80's Inspired, Dance Pop Tune. With This Release, Annie Brings ALOT To The (Turn) Table...Fun, Danceable Pop Music, With A Touch Of Sophistication Only She Can Serve Up. For An Even More Incredible Listening Experience, Do Yourself A Favour And Track Down The Double Disc Release With A Bonus Disc Of The "All Night EP", Featuring The Previous Singles "I Know UR Girlfriend Hates Me" & "Anthonio".

Good Times.

After a seemingly indefinite hiatus from her last album, Anniemal, Annie returns better and more confident than ever. The distinguishing elements of her music all remain consistently poignant throughout this new gem of an electropop concoction, most notably the airy vocals, thumping beats, 80s' rhythms that listeners have learned and loved so well about Annie. Despite so, Don't Stop comes across as more mature-sounding than the bubbly, but equally brilliant Anniemal, due in great part to the subtle theme of separation, loss and longing that underlie most of the songs in her new work. It is a pity though, that her other singles, including the Richard X productions, "Anthonio" and "I Know Your Girlfriend Hates Me" did not make it to this album due to disputes with her record label. However, because Annie did eventually manage to retain legal control over her work, she released a deluxe version with five extra songs on it, including the aforementioned two above. Standout tracks on Don't Stop include "My Love Is Better", "I Don't Like Your Band", "Songs Remind Me Of You" and "Loco". Personally, Don't Stop is more indicative of Annie's talents instead of Anniemal, which sounded a tad over-produced and constricted in terms of musical span. People have been comparing Annie's music to "vintage Kylie" and "Pet Shop Boys", but what Annie excels here is the ability to make electrosynthpop sound personal, something that is rarely seen in the overly polished and commercialized pop music scene today.

Move over Kylie

Annie's doing it better, and with a sense of humour too. Catchy pop songs, yes, but listen to the lyrics and you'll find a world-weary woman just looking for either true love or a good time on her own terms.

Biography

Born: November 21, 1977 in Norway

Genre: Dance

Years Active: '90s, '00s

Norwegian singer Annie (born Anne Lilia Berge-Strand) is as pop as early Madonna or late Kylie Minogue, yet her hipster credibility puts her just as close to Saint Etienne or Miss Kittin. She first made an impression in 1999 with a juicy Madonna-sampling single called "The Greatest Hit," produced by Tore Andreas Kroknes (aka Erot); its impact wasn't immediate, but through several releases, a few keen club DJs, and word of mouth, it became something of an underground smash. The duo,...
