iTunes Review

Rejuvenated and on top of her game, Mariah Carey follows up 2005’s hugely successful The Emancipation of Mimi with 2008’s E=MC2, an album very similar in sound and content. Mariah’s comeback has taken her deep into contemporary urban and hip-hop territory with few backwards glances. Those hankering after gospel-centric ballads will only have the stirring “I Wish You Well” to satisfy them. Instead, there’s a bevy of ultra-smooth midtempo tracks here, with the teasing “I’m That Chick,” the playfully erotic “Touch My Body,” and the sweetly swinging “O.O.C.” among the standouts. Carey downplays multi-octave vocal fireworks in favor of cooed phrases and rapid-fire word slinging, an approach that fits the restless vibe of tunes like “Migrate” (a club-hopping duet with rapper T-Pain) particularly well. She decks herself out in Jamaican trappings in “Cruise Control” and invokes the lush elegance of disco in “I’ll Be Lovin’ U Long Time.” A flash of anger lights up “Side Effects,” a track rehashing Carey’s long-ago split with husband Tommy Mottola. For the most part, though, the album is warm-hearted and forgiving. Formula? If yes, a winning one.

Surprisingly Good

I haven't liked a Mariah album this much since Daydream. Unlike Emancipation, I think there are far fewer weak tracks (like I Wish You Well). Cruise Control and Side Effects particularly stick out for me, I Stay In Love is vintage Mariah, For The Record clicked with me right away. One of the strengths of this album is it works really well. There's different styles of music here, sure, but the album flows. Definately worth the download if you'd like a fun listening experience over the summer!!

A few good songs...

Mariah has a great voice and has proven herself with many #1's...but this album sounds a bit tired. The themes of a cheating lover, blaming herself for a failed relationship, and regret are repetitive and boring. The collaborations with Damian Marley and Young Jeezy, however, are worth buying.

Pure Brilliance

Every track on this new Mariah Carey album is absolutely brilliant. The melodies are undeniably beautiful and Mariah's sense of humour shines on this record. It's a very upbeat, positive and inspiring album. Mariah outdid her last album Emancipation and with this album, she showed the newcomers how its done and she's not going away. 1. Migrate- One of the greatest club track by Mariah 2. Touch My Body- poppiest song on the album. Great radio track 3. Cruise Control- This screams 'SUMMER HIT'. It's blazing hot. 4. I Stay In Love- Best ballad on the album. BEAUTIFUL 5. Side Effects- One of Mariah's darkest songs ever and HIT is written all over it. 6. I'm That Chick- Samples Michael Jackson's ''OFF THE WALL''. Definitely a feel good song. 7. Love Story- This song boasts Mariah's vocals, harmonies and melodies. 8. I'll Be Lovin U Long Time- AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING. Pure Perfection. 9. Last Kiss- JD and Mariah usual style. Good song. 10. Thanx 4 Nothin'- Probably my least fave. 11. O.O.C- Swiss and Mariah did an amazing job on this one. 12. For The Record- Also an amazing ballad. Very catchy. 13. Bye Bye- Inspirational song. Should've been the 3rd single. 14. I Wish You Well- Most beautiful song on this album. This is a GEM

The best-selling female performer of the 1990s, Mariah Carey rose to superstardom on the strength of her stunning five-octave voice. An elastic talent who moved easily from glossy ballads to hip-hop-inspired dance-pop, she earned frequent comparison to rivals Whitney Houston and Celine Dion, but did them both one better by composing all of her own material. Born in Long Island, NY, on March 27, 1970, Carey moved to New York City at the age of 17 — just one day after graduating high school —...
