iTunes Review
Ryan Adams released three albums in 2005, issued a ton of musical and parodic scraps at his website in 2006, and finally returned in June 2007 with his ninth proper album, the deliberately restrained Easy Tiger. Backed by the Cardinals, it’s 13 tunes, all but one under the three-and-a-half minute mark, kept stylistically close to the alt.country rock for which he is best known and appreciated (“Two,” “Everybody Knows,” “I Taught Myself How To Grow Old”). Adams occasionally indulges his Jeff Buckley vocal flights of fancy for the four-plus minute “The Sun Also Sets” and the years have mellowed him somewhat, making his presentations occasionally less the light shuffling Nashville Skyline Bob Dylan than American Beauty-era Grateful Dead. But he’s still lyrically precise and the orchestrated drama fueling “Rip Off” recalls the ambition of the mid-70s countrypolitan sound, while the Nashville-meets-L.A. ‘70s radio pop of “Two Hearts” bounces to the easy sway of the Eagles under the influence of Roy Orbison.
Customer Reviews
Easy Tiger is a Ryan Adam's classic....
Ryan Adams pulls off a wickedly consistent album that just begs to be played over and over again. I've been a fan of "large chunks" of his work since his Whiskeytown days, but the problem with Ryan, is that he is such a prolific song writer that not every song connects with you the way you know he's capable of. Easy Tiger is different in this regard and is a massive achievement as a whole. Songs like "Goodnight Rose" and "Two" are instant favourites that solidify Adam's prowess as an all-american song-writer, while "These Girls" and "Everybody Knows" steer the music in a new direction that holds much promise.
Ryan Adams Does it Again
I've been a fan of ryans work for quite a while now. I think i can say that he's been my favourite singer for over a year. I have every CD and song, and have listened to them countlessly. My favourite include, desire, wonderwall, oh my god whatever etc, everybody knows, and now, i taught myself to grow old, which is at the moment, my favourite song, period. I wanted to know more about ryan adams, so when i searched a biography, i was amzed to know he can play guitar, piano, harmonica and drums, as well as amazing vocals. But what shocked me, was that he is not the most respectable musician, as he was involved in drugs. But im glad he is cleaner now, and his music is still freakin brilliant. if your reading this ryan, your the best singer since Johnny cash, and i plan on going to many of your concerts, and hopefully, one day meeting you.
Not His Best, But a Good Effort
There is one song on here, The Sun Also Sets, that I would classify as one of the worst songs to ever make it onto an Adams disc. That said, the rest of the disc is highly listenable, and is otherwise solid start-to-finish. I would consider this to be one of Ryan's more consistent albums, but with that consistency come a few less of those incredible moments when you think 'This guy is the best songwriter in the world'. Also noteworthy as it may end up being Adams' last album recorded under his own name.
