The album that turned me onto country music
I used to go out of my way to avoid country music. This album grabbed me and I couldn't let go. Neko Case sings with a voice that is straight from the bluegrass meadows in country heaven. She will croon her way into your soul. Her range of emotion and depth on this album is truly a wonder - some tracks she is sexy and sensual, some she is mad and full of resentment, others she is sad and lonely, a few she is hopelessly in love, and on one she is downright patriotic for the fallen city of Tacoma. Spend an evening with Neko and you'll wish you were a cowboy.
Hate country? Meet Neko Case.
As other reviewers have pointed out, this is country but not your usual country fare. Neko Case can hardly be pidgeonholed. At first, her voice will grab you by the throat, the way that Patsy Cline does. But instead of turning maudlin or bitter, like in mediocre love ballads, her voice becomes more vibrant, more brash as the songs progress. There's an energy there that's not unlike punk. Her lyrics are never overwrought; they tell stories in an elegant, yet down-to-earth way. Her CD's will fit comfortably between your Johnny Cash and your Clash. Seriously.

This album is amazing, there is a country sound [that i don't usually enjoy] but her voice is classic and the album is accompanied with her excentric guitar! Love 'No Need to Cry'.
