Album Review

Hedley's claim to fame is that frontman Jacob Hoggard was a fan favorite on the 2003 season of Canadian Idol before being voted off (much to his delight) in the semi-finals. Hoggard never planned on making it so far in the contest, and ultimately realized he didn't even want to win, since that meant being tied to a record deal performing someone else's songs. Fast-forward a few years and now he's fronting his own band, Hedley, with former members of Vancouver's Everything After. On their self-titled debut, Hedley basically play a poppier, lighter-edged version of the rock performed by fellow countrymen Social Code, which only vaguely resembles the pop-punk of, say, Simple Plan, and leans somewhat closer to the camps of SR-71 or Bowling for Soup. The album is competent, highlighted by the swirling guitars and exuberant hooks of standout tracks like the empowered "On My Own" or "I Don't Believe It," although even these songs take a couple spins to really grab listeners.

I WENT TO SCHOOL WITH JACOB !!

I can remember when i was in school, that jacob performed at a talent show the school put one. It was a slow ballad. He sang and played the guitar and the host held the microphone for him. I wish I knew what that song was now. I was almost in tears it was so nice. And now to see him lead this band is just simpley awesome. The cd rocks. I have no favourites because I love them all. Keep it up, Jacob.

Canadian Idol was a great jump start for this band

Hedley: Awesome debut CD!

Well, where to start, for a debut CD this is a dam good one! Everytrack is a winner! With catchy tunes like 'I Don't Believe It' and 'Streetfight' you'll fall in love in love with Hedley instantly, and 'Villain' one of my personal favorites, i just can't get enough! Give it a good listen at least twice and you'll love it! I've been listening to it daily since its release and im still not sick of it! Get it, its worth it! And if you ever get the chance, go see them live, their just as good if not better live, plus they stay and meet with all their fans after the show!
