iTunes Review

I Look To You is Whitney Houston’s first album in seven years, and only her sixth album in 25 years of recording. With her longtime mentor Clive Davis once again assuming the role of executive producer, I Look You to You shrewdly applies Houston’s talents to a variety of carefully selected material. On their two tracks apiece, modern R&B masterminds Akon (“I Got You,” “Like I Never Left”) and R. Kelly (“I Look to You,” “Salute”) do a fine job of balancing vintage Whitney with current trends. In the mold of the classic Whitney Houston ballads, “I Didn’t Know My Own Strength” reunites the singer with David Foster, who wrote songs for The Bodyguard soundtrack. The song is an affecting and revealing expression of Houston’s injury and resilience in the face of personal obstacles. While “Nothin’ But Love” and “For the Lovers” perhaps try too hard to fit Houston into a modern club mold, Alicia Keys’ “Million Dollar Bill” is a timeless old-school disco jam that ranks alongside the singer’s classic uptempo anthems “I’m Every Woman” and “I Wanna Dance With Somebody.”

A DISAPPOINTMENT

No one buys a Whitney album for the songs. They buy it for the VOICE. And that, my friends, is gone. It's heartbreaking.

Sheer Pop/SOUL/R&B creme brulee....

Love Whitney and listen with an ear tuned to the lyrical and musical joyous elegance that is reflected in this contemporary comeback...you will experience endless hours of repeat enjoyment as I now have. Whitney is a star in a class of her own: the solar system of production and writing talent represented here will take you on an endless musical journey. Sure - the voice has changed as have the decades; however, in consideration of all that is and will be, the angelic, emotional presence that solidifies the creative vibe is ... and remains .... Whitney - and it's a continuious soul massage. Stunning, brilliant and endlessly melodic. Love it - buy it!

Whitney's Back!!

Whitney... thank you so much for realizing your own strength and coming back. Your voice and your strength is a gift for all of us. What a beautiful album from start to finish.

Whitney Houston was inarguably one of the biggest female pop stars of all time. Her accomplishments as a hitmaker were extraordinary; just to scratch the surface, she became the first artist ever to have seven consecutive singles hit number one, and her 1993 Dolly Parton cover "I Will Always Love You" became nothing less than the biggest hit single in rock history. Houston was able to handle big adult contemporary ballads, effervescent, stylish dance-pop, and slick urban contemporary soul with equal...
