Album Review

Conceptually, Big Wreck's debut album, In Loving Memory of..., is similar to such post-alternative, heavy neo-prog acts as Dream Theater, but Big Wreck isn't a metal band. Instead, Big Wreck is a hard rock band with prog pretentions, relying on texture and subtlety, not numbing riffs. With music like this, it shouldn't be surprising that the group is better at playing than songwriting. Each of the tracks contains unexpected and provocative musicianship, but many of the cuts simply lack strong hooks or melody. Nevertheless, there's enough skill within the group's music to make In Loving Memory Of... an intriguing, promising debut.

Customer Reviews

My favourite album ever.

When I was 12 I first heard about Big Wreck and became obsessed with them. I listened to this album so many times that I should have burnt through the CD. My favourite song is "Prayer", I even wrote the lyrics on my wall. Most people I know my age know of this album and agree on it's brilliance. To watch Ian Thornley rock the guitar in person is just amazing, he's genius! 15 years later I still love this album and play it all the time.

Epic album

One of the best albums I've ever heard period. Worth every penny and then some!

BEST ALBUM EVER

'nuff said... I live by this album and will until the day I die. It shaped every single musical experience I've had since and I compare every "album" I've purchased to it. It will NEVER leave my iPod... EVER.

Side note to iTunes: The albums title is actually "In Loving Memory of..." not "In Loving Memory." You can see that on the album cover above... c'mon.
