iTunes Review

Sugarland are master storytellers. Set to Kristian Bush’s nimble guitar-strumming, frontwoman Jennifer Nettles spins American fables about “other” women, struggling small towns, and daughters down on their luck. With her gutsy, beam-busting pipes and earthy charisma, Nettles can imbue even the most infectious contemporary country songs with oil tankers full of meaning. Sugarland’s fourth album marks the duo’s departure from country. Though The Incredible Machine is devoid of Nashville twang, Music City’s polished production is firmly intact and the songs are still catchy. “All We Are” aspires to anthemic proportions, sounding like Heart combined forces with U2 as Nettles’ powerful vocals wail soulfully over contemporary stadium-rock trimmed with electronic flourishes and gang-vocals. The title-track takes cues from Tears For Fears and Simple Minds, begging to accompany a remake of The Breakfast Club. “Stuck Like Glue” retains a sliver of Americana instrumentation until morphing into a reggae rap that somehow works.

Mostly a miss...

This is definitely my least favourite Sugarland album to date; I don't think that the "steampunk" concept is really working for them, and the majority of the songs lack the emotionally-driven lyrics and general musicality of their previous albums. The instrumentals are still pumping, and they've clearly succeeded in breaking down the usual boundaries of the country genre, but overall, I don't find myself wanting to listen to the songs over and over again, the way that I did with their previous albums.

All of that being said, Little Miss and Shine the Light remind me of the "old stuff," and highly recommend them to any fan of Sugarland's existing discography.

To much autotune on the voice

to perfect femal voice, lack of emotion
Artistes should throw away all those digitek Tc helicon, autotune and other fake voice gizmo processing units and plugin
or at least use it only on backup vocales...
Hope it is a trend that we will laught at in 10 to 20 years...

What a great album!!

This is a must buy for any Sugarland fan! I am in love with it and I know anyone who buys this will feel the same. So don't hesitate just buy it, you will love it!

Sugarland, the platinum-selling contemporary country act, began as a trio of songwriters from the Atlanta area, each of whom had enjoyed some level of renown as a solo country artist. Lead singer and songwriter Jennifer Nettles had previously fronted Soul Miner's Daughter, and her gospel background and deep soul approach to country music made her an ideal frontperson for the trio. Vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Kristian Bush had formed half (along with Andrew Hyra) of the critically acclaimed...
