Interpol’s self-titled fourth album puts them back in the independent realm where they made their name. Whereas the previous Our Love to Admire sounded like a major-label album – grand and garish with lots of pomp and circumstance – this release scales things back. They sharpen their guitars on the surprisingly sparse single “Lights” and find much to grind against in their post-apocalyptic ways. The echo and reverb remains plenty heavy and the angst is spotted with glittery, jittery rhythms and panicked vocals. “Success” and “Memory Serves” start things with a hesitant jubilance drifting over the proceedings. “Barricade” breaks out from the pack while “Always Malaise (The Man I Am)” winds down into a gloomy pond. Other tracks like “Try It On,” “All of the Ways” and “The Undoing” dive deeper into their own rarefied type of darkness.

Not the best, but still great!

Ok so we are now at album 4 in Interpol's discography. Most reviews seem to put them in a catch 22: They should stop making the same old songs, or they should make an album identical to Turn On The Bright Lights. Well, you can't have it both ways! I just look at this album as a new set of songs that still sound very much like Interpol and they are great new songs. Many of them take a few lsitens to understand the chord progressions and melodies, but they are worth the time investment. Personal favourites are "Success", "Summer Well", "Barricade" and "Always Malaise (The Man I Am)". TOTBL and Antics will always be my two favourite albums but I am so extatic about this new album. It just satisifies that craving hunger for more Interpol that's been building up since 2007. Well done guys.

Weak

This Album is a complete disappointment. Since when is repeating yourself over and over and over again over a bland repetative sound song writing? There is not a single interesting tune on here. The first two albums where amazing, the third was average at best. This one will be lucky to get a second listen. Enjoy everyone the swift death of what could have been a great band. At least we still have Antics and Turn On The Bright Lights.

Its DIFFERENT, but that doesnt mean its a bad thing!
People seem to think that a band should stay the same forever, no, they evolve.
Interpol is a darker album, but its gorgeous.

Interpol also had a striking visual presence marked by the members' fondness for suits, which only strengthened their stately, British-influenced appeal.
