iTunes Review

Recorded at Hansa Studio in Germany where David Bowie’s Heroes and U2’s Achtung Baby were also recorded, Tiger Suit is a technically thrilling album based on layers of sound and brilliant electronic manipulation. Tunstall, the Scottish folkie, is again completely vanquished, as on Drastic Fantastic, and a booming art-pop singer takes her place. “Uummannaq Song” jags in several different directions as the rhythm section’s cruise control goes delightfully awry.  “Glamour Puss” is more cityscape glitz and champagne fizz. The whistling is perfect. “Difficulty” throws together some distorted and fuzzed-out guitars. “Fade Like a Shadow” goes for the quick pop hook. “Lost” turns into a space-folk tune with backing vocals bouncing between galaxies. “Golden Frames” tramps by with a cosmopolitan blues that sounds both desperate and seductive. “Come On, Get In” ramps up the tempo. “(Still A) Weirdo” and “The Entertainer” are the tracks where she sounds like she’s finally landed on earth for a breather before heading back into ozone.

Amazing!

Neil Young is like a bottle of fine wine. He just keeps getting better with age. This album has truth written all over it. It's the essence of what makes Neil one of the few great musicians that still makes honest and original music.

What a shame...I think that Daniel Lanois finally believes his own hype...he is responsible for some of my all-time favourite records; the u2 stuff, Willie Nelson-Teatro and Bob Dylan - Time Out of Mind. But this time, I feel as though he's missed the mark completely. This album sounds like it's not even finished. In my opinion, it seems as though he's compromised the potential that could have come out of this project just to have the selfish pleasure of being locked away in his home alone with Neil Young.
Is he suffering from Phil Spector syndrome? Daniel, what happened to you dude?

Le Noise

The title is appropriate as this album is nothing but noise. What happened to you Neil? Where is that enormous talent? It's hard to believe that this painful wailing was written and performed by the great artist that brought us Harvest and After The Gold Rush. Le Noise sounds like junior high kids jamming in a garage. Sad.

After Neil Young left the California folk-rock band Buffalo Springfield in 1968, he slowly established himself as one of the most influential and idiosyncratic singer/songwriters of his generation. Young's body of work ranks second only to Bob Dylan in terms of depth, and he was able to sustain his critical reputation, as well as record sales, for a longer period of time than Dylan, partially because of his willfully perverse work ethic. From the beginning of his solo career in the late '60s through...
