iTunes Review

Let the Rain Fall finds members Caroline Brooks, Kerri Ough, and Sue Passmore further refining their folk/jazz blend while retaining a quirky edge and playful sense of humor. The Canadian trio’s dazzling Andrews Sisters–like vocalizing is applied to a batch of tunes examining love and loneliness from a touring band's viewpoint. There’s plenty of zesty fun here, with “Free,” “Kiss Me in the Kitchen,” and “Oh, What a Thing” standing out for their exuberant spirit and teasing sexiness. “Lonesome Hearts” reaffirms the trio’s affinity for '30s-era music, while a cover of the K-OS tune “Crabbuckit” lets them cut loose in a bluesy jive workout. The wry but affectionate “Backyard” pays tribute to the Lovelies’ Toronto roots. Balancing all this whimsy and zaniness are such expressions of romantic longing as “Home,” “Best I Know,” and “Every Little Thing.” Passmore’s huskier vocals complement Brooks and Ough’s more honeyed tones, with Mac Rogers’ propulsive acoustic bass and Les Cooper’s lithesome mandolin and lap steel guitar adding extra sparkle to this smile-inducing collection.

What a great album

I've seen the Good Lovelies twice in concert and am awaiting their arrival for the CD release show in Winnipeg . This latest album is a terrific addition to their previous releases. The songs are sweet without being too sweet with some of the finest harmonies anywhere..and their music has an undeniable sense of fun and an occasional dose of beautiful melancholy. What a great listen. Not a bad cut on the album. Just sample.....their music is an instant pick me up.

Absolutely Beautiful!

I first heard the Good Lovelies on a CBC radio show. The cut was "Backyard". The lyrics are optimistic, the mood is fun and the voices are angelic. I was pleasantly surprised that the whole CD is fantastic! It is NOT one of those CDs that only has 1 good song. Every song has something special about it. "Best I Know" is haunting and "Kiss me in the Kitchen" is just plain fun, fun, fun. This CD reminds me of when I was a kid and my whole family would get together on holidays. Before long we were pulling out the guitars and singing our hearts out. That's what these ladies do....sing their hearts out.
