....wow.

I have his earlier album "Needs a Good Home" (or something like that) when he was under the name Final Fantasy.

This guy is just brilliant in every sense of the word. It took me a couple of listens to get used to his sense of melody and arrangement but once you "get it" (and you will...) it's completely intoxicating. And it never gets old - it's still on high rotation on my iphone years later.

I personally compare Pallett to Portishead.... not that their sounds are similar... but every song is well thought out, detailed, insanely unique (but completely accessible at the same time), and it gets better and better and better the longer you listen to it. It also has this pompous and pretentious hipster vibe to it which somehow feels completely justified and inspiring.

Get it now. Listen to it twice before you form an opinion. You'll thank me for it, I promise :)

Owen Takes Action

After listening to this album roughly a dozen times or so it is quite clear that Owen Pallett has established himself as much more than a curious oddity, but one of Canadas finest gifted artists. The songs here are dense while still feeling strangely whimsical. The Philharmonic is utilized brilliantly and when combined with the variety of percussion/bass makes the album feel playful yet matured. Owen has set the bar very high. Thanks Owen.

Pallett's best yet

This album is too big to digest in one listen but even after a few times through I can say that this is Owen Pallett's best to date. Oh Heartland, Up Yours! and Tryst with Mephistopheles are the standouts for me so far. But that will surely change on repeated listening. Buy this album.
