Close to perfect

Machine Head seem to be climbing up from the grave since Through the Ashes of Empires. The Burning Red and Supercharger saw them experimenting with a genre that most people listen to now and realize that they are aging better than the music they listened to during high school. You don't believe me, pop in Korn's first LP and see how long you last. Machine Head's The Blackening brought back everything that thrash and groove metal consisted of. Combine this with today's sound and you are provided with an album that is near flawless bringing them close to the perfection of Burn My Eyes. This new single is promising but Machine Head seem to be trying to amalgamate the different genres they've delved into on their past two outings. This can be tricky and may lead to inconsistency. Locust is inconsistent. It shines from the very beginning because they know how to build up a track and when Flynn starts to roar, the riff in the background is brilliantly groovy and spot on the direction all fans are hoping this new installment will go. But, they play the riff twice and then move on to a breakdown, a solo, a breakdown, a crescendo build up that ends with a sloppy breakdown. Bring the riff back at the end!! Finish strong. You've got something good, use it. This is an advance mix I'm hoping it is not the final mix. I'm positive the rest of the album will be brilliant and if the do in fact intend to combine Through the Ashes of Empires and The Blackening so be it. I can't wait, Opeth on September 20th and Machine Head on September 27th. My girlfriend is going to be pissed!!!

Influential West Coast heavy metal quartet Machine Head formed in 1992 around the talents of ex-Vio-Lence guitar players Robert Flynn and Phil Demmel, bass player Adam Duce, and drummer Chris Kontos. The band's D.I.Y. work ethic, aggressive playing, and relentless self-promotion eventually landed them a deal with Roadrunner Records, a relationship that would extend all the way through 2005. Their blistering debut, 1992's Burn My Eyes, blended the powerful, modern attack of Pantera and Alice in Chains...
