iTunes Review
Though Man On the Moon, Vol. II is Kid Cudi’s sophomore effort, the album’s rightful predecessor is Kanye West’s 808s and Heartbreak. Though not as frosty or insular as Kanye’s downer- pop masterpiece, Man On the Moon, Vol. II explores the same territory — alienation, self-doubt, loneliness, disillusionment. Like his mentor Kanye, Cudi is less interested in fame than its aftershocks (for example. “Don’t Play This Song”). Man On the Moon, Vol. II succeeds not just on the basis of its vivid interior descriptions. It’s easy for an artist to act morose — Cudi’s talent is that he makes it listenable. Thanks to his longtime producers Emile and Plain Pat (along with crucial contributions from Jim Jonsin, Chuck Inglish, and No I.d.) Man On the Moon, Vol. II is a fully inhabitable sonic landscape. Even when the songs turn bleak — and the final seven songs are downright chilling — the music remains inviting, brimming with intricate detail and unique tones. This is an album painted in blacks and whites and blues, but Cudi shows us the limitless shades that exist within those colors.
Customer Reviews
4 Stars
This album was a bit of a let down for me. I really liked the traditional hip-hop/rap vibes of MOTM 1, but a lot of the stuff on MOTM 2 is way out there musically. There's a bit of rock, a bit of rap, and a bit of electronic stuff. I'm not really big into songs on this album (quite a few of them) where the overly complicated instrumentals sort of clash with themselves and with Kid Cudi's singing/rapping. There's definitely pitch issues, and I feel that he could of made a much better album if he had simplified some of the songs.
It's a decent album, but it's quite a change from his first one. Don't immediately buy this just because you loved MOTM 1.
it catches on
At first it seemed a little different then what I was expecting, but it catches on really fast. The more you listen to this the more you want to play it. Defiantly recommend this album your not going to be disappointed : ) Sounds even better under the influence if you know what I mean ; )
Please fix
Why is this! Why does it cost 15.99 when the deluxe album and the normal album that 3 songs less then deluxe! So mad I need 99 more cents since I got a 15 solar gift card! Please fix... I need new Cudi.
