mix up - lo-fi pop-punk
take equal parts of pop, punk and lo-fi rock and you've got the sound of the latest album by the thermals. edgy guitars, fantastic and slick layered vocals and lyrics that feel like you've just begun to be reeled in on a barb by a fisherman's hook. this is tasty and delicious no holds barred straight-ahead music that's sure to get your hands out of your pockets. hello, record companies? as archie bunker would say, "hey meatheads, more of this and less of the manufactured crappola from reality TV."

A Portland-based supergroup of sorts, the Thermals originally featured Kind of Like Spitting's Ben Barnett, the Operacycle's Jordan Hudson, and Hutch Harris and Kathy Foster of the twee/folk-pop duo Hutch and Kathy and the All Girl Summer Fun Band. The group formed in early 2002 as a way for its members to play just for the fun of it, but their insistent melodies and punk-inspired urgency quickly won them a local following. Death Cab for Cutie's Ben Gibbard became one of the Thermals' first fans...
