Somewhat after his days in the Jackson Five, but before the moon-walking breakthrough on the Motown 25 TV special, a more mature Michael Jackson emerged. It happened most definitvely on this album, as Jackson found his solo star identity — still lean and clean, but with a Quincy Jones-produced sheen. Dance-floor workouts such "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough," "Working Day and Night," "Rock with You," and "Off the Wall" allowed Jackson to take his falsetto into uncharted waters. No Jackson album would be complete without a corny ballad, represented here by Jackson's fake sobs on "She's Out Of My Life." Offthe Wall proves that before he actually branded himself The King Of Pop, he was undeniably all that, both slick and funky at the same time.

Prelude To Thriller
1979. There was no rap. No hip hop. No internet. No MTV. R&B still meant Motown. Artists like Diana Ross, Marvin Gaye & Smokey Robinson were still pumping out the hits. Along came M.J. with "Off the Wall". Coming at the end of the 70's it perfectly blended the dance beats of disco-pop with the soft-rock stylings coming into vogue along with some funk/soul throwback to the original J5. It's "Thriller" that is remembered for being the gigantic hit record, defining M.J. But "Thriller" really just picks up where "Off the Wall" leaves off. Without the success of "Off the Wall", "Thriller" would be successful but not to the same gigantic degree. Listen again. It's an excellent introduction to his great album "Thriller".

this cd is amazing, to bad not that many people now about this cd, MJ's vocals are brilliant in this album
I'm Jumping Off The Walls!
This album rocks and every time I hear it, it makes me want to stop whatever I'm doing and dance! A great disco album. Michael has out grown his Jackson 5 days, but hasn't moved on to Thriller yet. I think that this album is a perfect blend of both! I LOVE YOU SO MUCH MICHAEL!!! Rest in peace!!!!
