Album Review

Moving on somewhat from the epic and sincere post-grunge of their last two hit albums, 2003's Beautiful Letdown and 2005's Nothing Is Sound, California Christian-emo rockers Switchfoot deliver a lively and laid-back effort with 2006's Oh! Gravity. Perhaps influenced by the post-punk of such contemporaries as Franz Ferdinand and Futureheads, Switchfoot smartly keep things stripped down and to the point this time. To these ends, the title track and leadoff single "Oh! Gravity" is a poppy blast of '80s new wave. Similarly engaging, the punchy and playful Mott the Hoople-esque anthem "Amateur Lovers" is a truly inspired creative turn for lead singer/guitarist Jonathan Foreman and his cohorts. But lest longtime fans fear the band have completely changed their sound, don't worry, as tracks such as the blissful mid-tempo ballad "Awakening" and the driving rocker "Head over Heels (In This Life)" retain the band's knack for mixing heartfelt lyrics with catchy melodies that tug at your soul.

Oh! Gravity. Falling in at Amazing

This Album is like a combination of “The Beautiful Letdown”, and “Nothing is Sound”, with a little bit of “Ode to Chin" thrown in for good measure. "Oh! Gravity." is a collage of all Switchfoot has become through their last 5 albums, without any letdowns, beautiful or otherwise. I can't wait for the next one they always find new ways to impress. To sum it up a great album, if you like Switchfoot even just a little bit you'll love this album.

Unbelievable

Each time Switchfoot releases a new album, regardless of how good the last one was, they always seem to make it better than any album before. Judging by how good "Nothing is Sound" was, that's really saying something. This album, unlike their others has more rock-ish songs on it, a change I can definately say I like. All the songs are worth getting my personal favourites are Oh! Gravity, American Dream, Dirty Second Hands, and Burn Out Bright. ROCK ON SWITCHFOOT!!!!

The Bomb Diggity.

"Oh! Gravity" in my opinion is one of their most excellent albums so far, besides "Nothing Is Sound" and "A Beautiful Letdown." This amazingly composed 12 track album does seem to have a new sound with some catchier tunes but it's still the same old Switchfoot. It's definitely a CD worth playing through your headphones.

After gaining a foothold in the contemporary Christian music scene, Switchfoot went mainstream with 2003's The Beautiful Letdown, a double-platinum album that straddled the line between sacred and secular rock music. The band spent the rest of its career appealing to both camps. Years before Switchfoot's commercial breakthrough, though, the group struggled to make a dent in the San Diego area, where singer/guitarist Jonathan Foreman, bassist Tim Foreman, and drummer Chad Butler began playing together...
