Absolutely Incredible!
There I was sitting in one of my music classes in college... and our teacher played one these pieces for us to transcribe. Spiegel im Spiegel: 1 reminded me of Everwood. Truly amazing heartfelt pieces that are for any classical lover. The bottom notes played by the piano really reach deep down into the soul. Simple and beautiful. Truly an album worth purchasing.
Absolutely profound
I also, like the previous reviewer, heard this at the Music School at Yale. The professor came next to me, and got me out of my transe and offered me a tissue. I was crying, not necessarily of sadness, but of plenitude. There is a mysterious envelopping nostalgy that Pärt managed to pin down, and with such simplicity. Sometimes, composers try too hard. Here, Pärt lets you do the mental work. Fantasize people! The interpretation is simply delicious and pure, nothing annoys, just plain floating. The emotions are very well conveyed but the performers, with no pressure. Just relax, and float! A MUST IN YOUR COLLECTION! I highly recommend this disk. ASB YaleDog
A Jewel
A composer's talents are most obvious and his/her weaknesses most difficult to hide in slower pieces. Alina, is Arvo Part's greatest achievement in what he manages with these quiet, peaceful compositions. The simplicity of the pieces and the performances here as well makes for a compelling piece of music that will reward after countless listenings and whether you focus on every note or simply let it entrance you.
