iTunes Review

With a growing indie-rock fan base that includes O.C. character Seth Cohen, Death Cab for Cutie finally moves up to a major label with Plans, their fifth full-length release. It’s both the modestly forward-looking effort past listeners would have expected and a bold leap forward. Ben Gibbard again sings for those with aching hearts, a bit puzzled about where they find their young lives going, but this time from a more resolutely grown-up position. Like R.E.M. before them, Death Cab is building an impressive catalog from diverse blocks that click into place nicely.

You can't help but like this one...

This is the first Death Cab album I've bought. Didn't even hear of them until the guy at HMV recommended Postal Service. I was reluctant at first, because this album got a lot of hype, but I've been proven wrong. Who cares if they did some tunes for the OC, right?? You know how sometimes when you listen to a song, it's SO GOOD that it gives you the goosebumps? You're not sure why exactly - could be the melody, the lyrics, or the singer's voice. Well, I got goosebumps listening to most of this album. WOW!

One of Their Best

It's hard to pin down a single 'best' with DCFC as the albums all have their own merits, but this certainly has to be one of them. As always, there is an innate sincerity in Ben's lyrics and once again the band manages to transform what would otherwise have made an interesting read into quite an album. The fine musicianship and writing never seem to fight for your ear, instead they pleasantly co-exist. The downside is that it is only 11 tracks, or 12 on iTunes. Do yourself a favor and pick up this disc online or off.

Soul Meets Body meets greatness!

This album is full of catchy tunes but the single Soul Meets Body sticks with you. The lyrics are great and the melodies are great and catchy. If you don't buy the whoe album, AT LEAST BUY THE SONG!

Biography

Formed: 1997 in Bellingham, WA

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Death Cab for Cutie's rise from small-time solo project to Grammy-nominated rock band is one of indie rock's greatest success stories. Launched in the bayside college town of Bellingham, Washington, the group was originally a side project for singer/guitarist Ben Gibbard, an engineering student at Western Washington University who split his time between school and music. Taking a break from his local power pop band, Pinwheel, Gibbard began recording an album's worth of solo material during the summer...
