Finally a an album from the Like in Canada!
I love the Like, and I found it very depressing that you couldn't get their first album on the Canadian iTunes store. So I'm super happy that you can get their new album in Canada!
Try something old and new today
Originally a punk band during their debut years in L.A, The Like has developed a new sound with their original pluckiness, added sophistication and borrowed elements from 60's psychedelic rock. Release Me represents The Like's first full LP since their label transition from Geffen to Downtown in 2008. Though replacing two members (one of which was Charlotte Froom a founding member) The Like has gained new appeal as The Like 2.0.
A serviceable band in their teen years, the new inspiration drawn from early 60's girl bands and the British Invasion has helped pull these talented young girls out of the muck of canned alternative punk rock lite. The Like isn't just candy pop, they're like Jolly Ranchers. You don't stop eating them until you've sampled every flavor... by that time you've gone through the whole pack and you want more.
The new sound is comparable to Japan's famous all girl band, The 1,2,3,4's, but much more evolved. Release Me is a solid album from track one to the last song. Though many will simply buy the title track (without shame, it's hella fantastic) those who do will sorely miss out on equally fabulous tracks such as 'I Can See It In Your Eyes' and 'Trouble in Paradise'. Buy this album, if not for being a fan of The Like, then to hear something borrowed, but new to the current music scene.
To complete the experience, grab a physical copy along with the iTunes version to add to your collection. I'm ordering my vinyl copy right now, to listen to on my Stereo cans while sitting in a bean bag chair. Groovy!
