iTunes Review

Executive-produced by John Legend, Estelle's sophomore album Shine brings together the best and brightest from Legend’s circle. Kanye West delivers “American Boy,” a slice of modern disco that is perfect backdrop for the song’s cross-continental romance, while Wyclef Jean and Mark Ronson, bring to the table a global sensibility well-suited to Estelle, a West Londoner with a mom from Senegal and a dad from Grenanda. Jean’s tracks, “No Substitute Love” and “So Much Out of the Way,” are hypnotic and heavy, his best productions in years; Ronson, on the other hand, comes through with “Magnificent,” a raw funk beat infused with Jamaican flavor. Of course, these producers are only as good as their singer, and Estelle is completely self-possessed and stylish. In league with other contemporary British sirens like Amy Winehouse and Nicole Willis, Estelle is soulful but not stereotypical, charming but not cutesy. She represents something fiercely current yet utterly timeless and her Shine is a true rarity: a mainstream female pop album that is as sophisticated as it is fresh.

One of Britain's Best Export's!

This album has surpassed my expectations! If you have heard ‘American Boy’, don’t think you’ve heard the best of the album. There are so much better songs on the album! Here is a track-by-track review: 1.Wait A Minute: What a great song. Too bad it was not as a popular single as ‘American Boy’ but I prefer it to ‘American Boy’. 4.75/5 2.No Substitute Lover: Love everything about this song! The vocals, the beat it has it all. 5/5 3.American Boy: Great song. Not my favorite on the album but better than most stuff out their today. 4/5 4.More Than Friends: This one of my favorite tracks. Has a very nice old school vibe, love the backround vocals. One of the best. 5/5 5.Magnificent: This track sounds like the type of track you would listen/hear in the Caribbean with your friends. Very laid back but still well put together. 4.5/5 6.Come Over: Like the previous track it gives off laid back vibe. And just as good. 4.75/5 7.So Much Out The Way: This track shows off Estelle’s rapping skills and it very good. Has a great chorus. 4.5/5 8.In The Rain: Not the best track on the album. It’s skippable. 3/5 9.Back In Love: Once again this track is skippable. This is possibly my least favorite on the album. 10.You Are: Finally, after 2 sleeper tracks the album gets back on course. John Legend and Estelle sound great together on this track. One of the best collaborations of the year. 4.75/5 11.Pretty Please (Love Me): You can tell that Cee-Lo (lead singer from Gnarls Barkley) had his hand in this track. It’s more experimental, yet keeping a classic R&B feel. 4.25/5 12.Shine: A wonderful track. For me it represents being in the spotlight and standing out. Has some great rhymes. 4/5 13.I Wanna Live: Has a great beat and has a great message. I’ll let you discover the meaning. Great! 4.5/5 14.Life To Me: A track that shows off her wonderful vocals. I love her voice but just wish their was something more to it. 3.5/5 Overall this album is a wonderful mix of R&B/Rap and if you are a fan of either one of these genres, this album will be a favorite. Some must have songs are Wait A Minute (Just A Touch), No Substitute Lover, More Than Friends, Magnificent, Come Over…… JUST BUY THE WHOLE ALBUM!

Excellent Excellent!!

Fabulous collection! Worth every penny and more! It has hints of "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill". The second verse of "No Substitute for Love" is a throw back to George Micheal's Faith...have a listen!

estelle is belle

i was a little wary of the classic Amy Winehouse impersonator until i discovered Estelle had created her own british-export category: R&B UK STYLE (with a pinch of Kanye). I must say, every track has potential (specially the collabs with john legend and kardinal)...though no song in particular is the next 'rehab'...still, this girl's got good rhythm cuz she does SHINE in her own way.
