Genre should be other-world music
Do you need proof that there is more to human vocals than just singing? Spilling wetly from the creative crucible of Bjork's cave-vocal inspired Medulla, Sinaa is hearty evidence. Traditional Inuit sounds and beats meld with ultra-contemporary vocals in a sinewy album that is at home both on the remote shores of the Arctic ocean, and the palm-present tense of your iPod. Tagaq's melodic voice swirls around tense, minimalist drums, against a backdrop of pounding, groaning, moaning, howling, droning, screaching, buzzing, pulsing, howling, roaring Inuit throat singing. It is a unique album, from a unique artist, of a unique culture that will grip you to the marrow.
