It’s been twenty years since the last real Devo studio album and like many bands that were once ahead of their time, Devo now sound remarkably contemporary. Techno learned plenty from these art-punks from Ohio. While Devo could’ve conceivably released this album anytime in the past ten years and it would’ve sounded plenty in style, in 2010 it sounds like music to everyone’s ears. “Fresh” kicks things off with a tense, terse, austere atmosphere for singer Mark Mothersbaugh to “sing” in his apostrophe-hyped delivery where every line sounds like a command to dance. “Please Baby Please” is the closest the group’s ever come to a genuine love song. “Don’t Shoot (I’m a Man)” cranks with a melodic keyboard loop prepping the crunchy guitar lines and a tune anyone can hum. If not for the tight, tough production, “Mind Games” would sound like it could’ve been birthed in the early ‘80s when synth-pop first took hold. The entire album is a rediscovery of the band’s primal power.

SURPRISE!

Holy Cow!! I was thinking this would be another 80's band getting back together for a sad attempt at cashing in in the 80's revival. Nope! This is one upbeat, well written album. I can't stop listening to it. Ironic the title track is "Fresh" because it literally is Fresh!
At least 4 other memorable tunes here.
Way to go DEVO!

Hey spuds Devo is back. Give the boys from Akron , Ohio a chance. Their musical energy and simple message is what the world needs. And if haven't already be sure to check their other releases. Duty for the Future Now!!!

Devo back again

It has a slightly slicker sound to it than "Smooth noodle maps" their "last" album.
There is a great deal of fun in this like their brief stint as the "Wipeouters".

"Don't Shoot" pure classic Devo. "Human Rocket" Something new, great beat.
"Step Up" They shake it up in the right spots. "Later is Now" Is like an apology for being away so long.
"Knock Boots" Funky, a new devolution anthem. "Fresh" is pure Devo campy music, with a return of their wild guitars.
"What We Do" and "Watch us Work It" as seen on a computer ad. could be the best songs on the album.

For someone who has followed their whole career, there is a little something for everyone here.
