bloody brilliant, in every sense
Although I have not had the chance to see the show performed live on stage, after seeing this movie in theatres I could not wait to get home and buy the soundtrack. In the film Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter (being established actors) were absolutely brilliant and I expected them to be. However, I did not expect their singing abilites to be as great as their acting skills or to live up to Stephen Sondheim's difficult but genius music, but I was thoroughly blown away. As a musical lover and performer I would think I was a good judge of talent, and I could have not thought of two better actors to have the parts. The songs were not only beautiful but filled with unbelievable emotion. Personal favorites were A Little Priest and Epiphany. This is a movie I'll definitely be seeing again- and a soundtrack I'll be singing along to for a long time.
Sweeney's Waiting...
Being a fan of the collaborative team, I was ecstatic when I heard that Tim Burton and Johnny Depp were producing a film of “Sweeney Todd”. I was a little hesitant when I heard that he would be singing though, seeing as Stephen Sondheim's music isn't the easiest to master. However when I went and saw the movie, I was pleasently shocked by the main roles, Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter. Niether of them have huge, Broadway voices, but what they do bring to the music is perfectly lovely and a joy to listen to. Anyone who was a fan of the movie will be wanting this soundtrack to get these lovely songs thoroughly stuck in their head.
Sweeney Love!
I saw Sweeney Todd live on stage, and it was *amazing* I can't wait until the movie comes out on DVD (STUPID R RATING! ARGH!) So I can see my wonderful Johnny as Sweeney Todd. My favorite song is 'Not While I'm Around' and "A little Priest". I wish I could buy the whole album, but that would leave me with $5.03, so I decided to wait until i can see the movie and decide which songs are my favorite. I love you Johnny, as a pirate, as a revenge-stricken barber, as anything you want to be because you're Johnny.
