Album Review
The first Scissor Sisters album was one of the catchiest debuts of the new millennium, but also one of the best-crafted. All camp on the surface but with plenty of substance underneath, it succeeded because the group wrote fantastic songs and backed them with excellent productions, usually in the vein of their biggest pop/dance heroes, from the Bee Gees to George Michael. If the follow-up, Ta-Dah, doesn't reach as high as its predecessor, it's certainly not the fault of some spot-on arrangements by head producer Babydaddy. Soundtracking his own mythical night at Studio 54 circa 1978, Babydaddy's Discoball Jazzfest Studio in New York City pumps out tracks gloriously in debt to the Bee Gees (of course), Elton John (although not on the track he contributes piano to), the Rolling Stones' brassy late-'70s stompers, electro-disco arena rock (if there is such a thing), and some sort of '70s disco hokum that features a very talented Gina Gershon on jew's-harp. Similarities to their debut are much easier to find than differences, although the songs aren't quite as memorable (except the single "I Don't Feel Like Dancin'") and Ta-Dah is slightly samey in comparison. (The debut ranged for influences as late as 1987, and flaunted a tougher, leaner sound.) Still, Scissor Sisters remain consummate masters of their material; the chord changes on the ballad "Land of a Thousand Words" defy listeners to not think of a glittering discoball, which is precisely the right image to be conjured.

They Did it Again!!!
Scissor Sisters is back with their second full album and it does not dissapoint! Tracks 1, 2, 4, 7, 8 and 9 are fast-paced and addictive right off the bat, but as you continue listening to the album, you grow to love #3 (I Can't Decide) which juxtaposes dark lyrics with light and happy rhythms, #5 (Land of 1000 Words) for its lyrics and awesome climatic finale and #10 (The Other Side) because it's just phenomenal. Track 2 (She's My Man) is the upcoming single for the band and a guaranteed hit with its awesome beat and more lyrical genius. If you liked their first album, don't wait a second longer to buy or download this one. If you've never heard of the band before, sample some of the tracks on iTunes and hear what I'm talking about. They are one of the most talented and versatile music groups out there. Kudos to them on this second awesome album!
This Ain't No Sophomore Slump!!!
A great follow up album to their self titled debut! Rarely have I heard such joyous and unapologetic music making. With a lot of music artists who have experienced massive success with a previous record, you can often hear the pressure they are under in trying to match what they've done before. Often the result is a strained and uneven piece of work. This is not the case with Ta-Dah. Sure it's a bit of a disco throwback, but we should all long for the days when the world was a little less complicated. This is the thinking person's Pop music. The lyrical complexities of "Land of A Thousand Words" and "The Other Side" are almost haunting, while songs like "She's My Man" and "Kiss You Off" tell a story while rocking your socks off! Well worth the price of the download, I predict this album will be enjoyed for years to come, just like its predecessor. ROCK ON SCISSOR SISTERS!!!
Excellent sophmore effort
The Scissor Sisters have returned and they do so with an excellent album - Ta-Dah. Taking elements from their first elements, the Sisters have truly created a classic album. With great guitar solos throughout and intelligent lyrics, Ta - Dah is an essential album for any alternative rock fan. Kiss You Off, The Other Side, and Might Tell You Tonight are the strongest tracks on the album with Intermission being the weakest. Each track delivers it's own story and the flow of the album is very nicely produced with I Don't Feel Like Dancin' as the bubbly intro and Everybody Wants the Same Thing ending the whole journey off with a relaxed melody and mellow tempo. Overall, a great album!
