low fi brilliance
Hilarious, true and full of character and at the same time brilliant and touching.
"The Ocean is Life" will always be one of those "special" albums in my life.
hearty indie fare
This is the first album by 21 Tandem Repeats, the staunchly locovorial Vancouver outfit that hosts the legendary Wednesday Night Supper Show at the historic Railway Club. This album gets classified as “folk” by iTunes, but there’s a pretty wide diversity of things here, from the acoustic folk of Fuse Lit Bomb, to the jazzy introspection of Chump Fool, and the chunky riffage of Nucleus Accumbus, with its Wire-like wierdness. All the songs are short, and there are plenty of them; it feels like these were churned out in rapid succession before the riffs could get stale. It’s hearty fare that doesn’t take itself too seriously; an enjoyable romp through the early psyche of 21TR.
