The massively tongue-in-cheek vibe of “The Safety Dance” doesn’t diminish its pinging infectiousness, and the rest of Men Without Hats’ 1982 debut balances the band’s silly and catchy sides just as well. Rhythm of Youth is a feast of cascading synth melodies, while Ivan Doroschuk’s vocals are versatile enough to evoke an opera singer one moment and a cartoon character the next. Between the sly cultural warfare of “Living in China” and the French bent of “Cocoricci (Le Tango des Voleurs),” eccentricity abounds.
