Album Review

In July of 2009, a year after MGMT broke out with Oracular Spectacular and became a household name for hipsters, Cantora Records re-released the duo's 2005 EP, Time to Pretend. Remastered by Greg Calibi, the disc includes the original versions of the singles "Kids" and "Time to Pretend," along with four tracks that didn't make the full-length. It's interesting to hear the hits before Dave Fridmann got his mitts on them and turned them from homemade laptop electro jams into explosive pop, and the other songs, "Boogie Down," "Destrokk," "Love Always Remains," and "Indie Rokkers" are pretty good, even if they aren't as huge as the cuts on Oracular Spectacular.

MGMT WILL ALWAYS REMAIN

The song "love always remains" really brought this album together. It's catchy, cool, and all around a good song. I think its a must buy.

Better versions than Oracular spectacular

I prefer the sound of the songs "Time to Pretend" and "Kids" in this EP over the versions on "Oracular Spectacular", they are definitely different versions.

MGMT !

This is a great album to listen to, seriously their early stuff is what kick started Oracular Spectacular .

Personal Favorites: Love Always Remains, Destrokk and Boogie Down

Don't get me wrong I love Kids and Time to pretend .
But I already got my fill of it
Just trying to explore the bands other songs and honestly I suggest you all do to (along with Oracular Spectacular and Congratulations) it's like finding a new song you never heard before and absolutely fall in love with it
Hope this helps !

MGMT first formed in 2002, during Ben Goldwasser and Andrew Van Wyngarden's freshman year as art students at Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT. The band was initially known as the Management, and its shows consisted mostly...
